Support for Families in the Algarve, Covid-19 crisis

Post by 28teacher »

Thank you so much Carol Whitesmith and the Carvoeiro Ramblers for your brilliant donation of 70€. At the moment, as you can imagine, we are concerned about the many families who have lost their jobs in hotels, restaurants, cafés and in the many other businesses that make up the tourist industry here. People are really struggling so apart from setting up food collection points, we are also asking for donations to enable us to buy fresh meat, fish, fruit and vegetables. Consequently your 70€ will go towards food shopping. If you are still here in the Algarve look out for a food collection point in your area, many small charities, like ours, are helping out by collecting dried food, packets and tinned items and if you wish to add to our Food for families appeal you can send a donation to Associação Guarda-chuva, Crédito Agricola Bank IBAN: PT50 0045 7011 4031 6715 4683 8 ... Thank you everyone who has, and who is, continuing to support us and let's hope that it won't be too long before we can all go rambling once more in the wonderful countryside of the Algarve. Keep safe and look after each-other. Our very best wishes Su & Mike Davis

UPDATE: Thank you so much Linda and Russell for passing over an amazing 137€ collected from the Ramblers walks, 20€ of which was collected by Carol and Willie for a walk they led in December. We are very, very grateful for the amazing amount of money and support you have given us, which has enabled us to give large food parcels of fresh meat, fish, veg and fruit as well as dried items and toiletries to 28 local families who are now struggling without financial support. For those of you who are still here perhaps you can look out for local food collection points where you can leave dried food, tins of beans, fish etc.. At our local Indian Restaurant in Galé, where we have started a regular food collection point 11-12noon every Friday. The owner, Mr Singh is offering 10% off your Indian takeaway meal when you bring a food donation. If you're anywhere near please come and see us (from 2 metres distance of course!) Thank you everybody who has helped and supported us, we really appreciate it. Su & Mike xx

Hi Su and Mike

I have transferred to your account 50 Euros which the walkers donated on the last two walks I did before the lockdown.

Keep up the good work..
