Despite the new restrictions being adopted here in Portugal we are still not sure whether to return to UK.

It looks like the pandemic is spreading faster in UK with infection rates per 100,000 approximately double that of Portugal. The Algarve still seems safer than Bristol where the high student population appears to be creating infection hot spots, particularly near halls of residence.

Stay safe Geoff and keep us posted on your experience please.

Unfortunately, we won't now be coming out this autumn....variety of reasons...not helped by Easyjet cancelling our return flight in December without telling us...albeit offering alternatives.

I'm sure you will both be disappointed Geoff. I'm at Gatwick on my way out. See you next year.

It's all still very civilised Geoff and significantly more orderly than the UK.

Pleased you got home safely - at our time in life we can afford to do without a bit of insurance - get on the next plane !

Don’t think the local businesses would agree with your sentiments. The Algarve we all know and love cannot survive without tourists.
Suggest you adopt sensible shielding protocol if you are high risk and let the restaurateurs and bar owners make a living !

The ‘stay at home don’t bring your germs’ here is typical of an attitude shaped by the ‘fear porn’ we have to endure from the mass media, Government especially Hancock and the Sage ‘experts’. We have never been controlled like this before when we were faced with influenza and there have been years where influenza has been just as lethal. Remember, influenza does affect children and young adults in high numbers, Covid does not! We never said in the past don’t bring your flu germs here! To repeat, the average age of a person who has died of/with Covid is 82.4! The Infection Fatality Rate (IFR) for those under 70 is 0.05%! And of those, many will have at least 1 co-morbidity. I know I am repeating myself but the statistics are being manipulated to intensify fear and hence compliance. I know it is not only about deaths and people can suffer long term effects from Covid but again this is not a new phenomenon. There has always been the existence of ‘post viral syndrome’ that describes the possible longer term health issues arising from any I infection. If this cycle of lockdowns continues we will be in an economic abyss, a closed health service including direct GP access that will lead to huge collateral damage. Any loss of life is deeply regrettable but the ‘hyper focus’ on this virus will kill far more people over the coming months and years and many will be between 20 and 60 years of age. The mask debate is interesting in that in March when we had a true pandemic the Deputy Chief Medical Officer said that masks were not advised to be worn by the general public! Then in July when deaths had fallen to below the 5 year average, masks were mandated! There is no empirical evidence that masks prevent the spread of any virus, especially when they are simply cheap ‘Chinese’ imports or bits of cloth! There is more evidence that continued use of masks will cause bacterial infection because of the germs trapped in them manly due to the unhygienic practices of many of the wearers. I feel that masks were introduced not because there is evidence that they will slow the spread of the virus but as another ‘fear symbol’ for the masses. We would still rather be in our favourite resort, germs or no germs😂

I must admit I found Mixermans comment's a little offensive, most of who contribute to this Forum have been visiting CVO for many years, and have seen local business's suffer greatly this year through lack of said Tourists. Anyway I'm sure he wasn't referring to us, I personally am missing the place enormously as is my wife, roll on normality.

As a property owner I don’t class myself as a “tourist” when I fly over to Algarve. When there I may look like a “tourist” but I like to act like a local. :D

i am sorry if i offended what i call the locals ,regular patrons .

what i really meant was the idiotic people that come as soon as travel restrictions were lifted , off the plane , no masks all getting together in the resorts , drinking and no distancing , then moan when they have to quarantine when they get home .

as soon as they came here the covid score went up! then travel restrictions applied again !

Just heard about someone who went on a Julie Statham walk the other day....70 people...all apparently socially grouped on the walk, but difficult to see how that happens at start and finish....and against the spirit of the rules to my mind!

Hi Geoff,

Maybe this should be posted in the Ramblers section of the forum, it hasn't got much to do with Faro Airport ?
