Re: Property running cost comparison

I think that you need to be very careful about comparing running costs either between UK and Portugal or between owners here in Portugal. I live here all year and have a 4 bedroom villa (with private pool and garden) but pay no where near the quoted figures. Some of my neighbours who only spend peri...

Re: SKY / SATELLITE TV

Legally you are not permitted to "receive" Sky signals here in Portugal (because of licencing restrictions). However, it is an open secret that many people have a Sky box and receive Sky programmes exactly as they do in the UK (after all you cannot stop a satellite being accessed from within the foo...

Sounds about correct to me; €900 per sq metre for building and €25K for pool. May be a little on the high side but remember that you have to clear the land before you can start to build. Much depends on build quality. Also, some builders charge €2000 per sq metre but are not necessarily any better q...

Yes DECO can help you with Condominium Regulations or even AFPOP. You can read them for yourself on http://dominio.planetaclix.pt/21-xptd47344.htm#1429A particularly Artigo 1432 which covers the procedure for calling an annual AGM. The Owners of property on the Condominium appoint an Administrator (...

I have a wood burning stove in the lounge and duct it into the main bedroom and this is absolutely fine for the winter (leave the fire burning 24/7 and use good quality oak). I do have granite slabs in two of the bathrooms and they are very effective as heaters and towel rails. However, they are not...

Food - Chanfana

Chanfana is from the North of Portugal (Coimbra). However, there is a restaurant here that serves it. A Palmeira. On the old EN125 road at Estombar heading towards Portimão on the right hand side. They also occasionally have Ensopados and Cabrito on the menu.

UK Digital TV

Any TV brought from the UK will work in conjunction with a Sky satellite system (though the use of Sky satellite systems is not permitted in Europe even though we all know that it happens). You can use a Sky Digibox or a Sky+ Digibox and receive any Sky TV programs as if you were living in the UK. J...

Banco Santander

I have used Banco Santander for well over 10 years now and found them excellent. when I lived in the UK, some years ago now, they even telephoned me twice in the UK to tell me that my Principal Account was very low and asked if I would like to sell some investments to correct this. Not the service t...
