It was very disappointing. A lot of businesses dropped out and there was not nearly as many stands as last year. I didn't think anywhere near as many people went but the Resident still insist there were nearly 8000 visitors

I would try either Auto-heat or SACL at Vale de Lousas. We know the owners of both companies and I'd say they were reliable and have been in business many years.

Actually, there's a bar near us and they shut up shop when they hear troublemakers coming. They don't want the hassle. They also don't want the GNR to be called out when trouble does start which could lead to them being closed down for good.

If Carvoeiro/Algarve isn't safe, then nowhere is. Still I wouldn't class anywhere in the UK as safe.

Does AHETA's report include figures for the people who now go self-catering, booking directly with the owners, rather than staying in hotels? Also, with money being tighter than usual for a lot of people, self-catering as opposed to staying in a hotel is also helped by not eating out so often, which...

I agree, if something is kicking off the GNR will come out and sort it out. You just need to ring them. Is the local number for the GNR on here? Presumably its in the FAQs?

I am very disappointed. First we lose Plus now Modelo. I don't like Pingo Doce and have no idea what this other place will be like :(
I noticed the Modelo signs had all been broken when we drove past today so asssumed it had now gone.

The dealers usually have a better rate. Although it might be worth your while asking your bank for the non tourist rate. Ask the dealers for a rate too before you decide. Most can give you an idea.
Oh and most dealers are pretty much the same but go for a reputable one. There are some in the Algarve.

If you want to buy the cheapest stuff you need to shop where the Portuguese shop. I tend to shop in Modelo as their food is excellent and very reasonable and also Aldi (although the closest is Alcantarilha), now that Plus has gone :( Although I am told Pingo Doce is reasonable. The Intermarche is al...

When I say cooling down I mean whilst it was frequently getting up to nearly 40º in June its now getting just above 30.. Although someone did inform me that Friday was the hottest day this year. I am not sure how reliable that was.

So far this year June has been the hottest month by far, but that's not all that unusual. It seems to be cooling down now.
