well SF is actually in CVO at the moment, probably to be seen noshing at any of the restaurants I mentioned above or possibly Primavera, Bella Vita, Brasserie Marinha or O Algar. SF is undoubtedly a bit of a gourmet - he can also cook very well himself - and maybe he is a bit fussy about his grub. O...

I agree with all the previous posts here although Taxwoman and I have only had the great buns and coffee when we have been there. Do they still run a music festival here ?

well well well - nothing like a good spat ! In an attempt to bring a bit of rationality back to this, a forum on restaurants is always going to be a bit subjective and everyone's usage of the english language is never going to be universally consistent. To be fair to Silver Fox (and I have to be, he...

Mona Lisa is probably the closest as you head into town. This place is an informal pizzeria, with a few other Italian alternative dishes. It's fairly basic but if a pizza and a beer are all you want, then there is no better place of this sort in town. A few yards further on is the Hotel Cristal - do...

Wine List

Can someone suggest the best restaurant wine list in or around CVO ? I consider value for money, a wide range and some good top notch choices as being the three main criteria. For starters how about the following contenders Leao de Porches - good range with a few rarer to find bottles Elle & Ela's -...

I would agree the food is good but service, although professional, can be slow as the kitchen comes under pressure when the restaurant fills up. For a restaurant of this standard, I also find the wine list somewhat disappointing.

When I think back a few years, I feel regret at what has happened to the sardine restaurants at Portimao harbour. Yes I agree that the ones underneath the arches are still fine places to eat sardines but you miss the old view of the harbour itself as well as that almost overwhelming barbecue aroma. ...

Posh Lunch

Where is the best (good food/wine and smart service/ambience) place for a weekday lunch in or around CVO.

Please do not suggest the restaurant with no name on the beach towards Ferragudo - I'm looking for an alternative to there

Last time TW and I were in CVO we wondered about lunch in this restaurant. It was about 1 pm on a Thursday afternoon and there was no-one else in the place. We hesitated and were then told that the chef wasn't there and although we had almost sat down at a table that the restaurant was closed. The s...

It's quite a way From the square go up the hill past the Almansor and Cristal until you get to Rocha Brava, turn left and follow the road until you get to a T-junction, turn right and go through Benagil, the road goes down a steep hill, a hairpin bend, and up a steep hill past O Algar. Keep on going...

For "real" piri-piri, you have to leave the Algarve and head north to Lisbon. Try Rei dos Frangos near Rossio. The sauce is served in a very small pot and is brushed onto the chicken with a very small paintbrush - it's dynamite - be careful, very careful
