Re: Expats repatriated to the uk
Wow! Thanks everyone for posting, that was a surprise to me, a nice one I might add. I hadn't banked on getting any posts, so thank you and a kiss on both cheeks to all! After a weekend off work (doing chores, washing, ironing, housework, (we must have done these things in Portugal, maybe a little l...

Expats repatriated to the uk
Having lived in the Algarve for 7 years aged 7-13 and latterly from 2004-09 I feel the Algarve to be my home. Having no choice in March 2009 to return permanently to the UK (work, or rather the lack of) I have found myself to be utterly isolated. Whereas I have friends whom I have had for many years...

Exiting Portugal
Please could anyone advise me on leaving Portugal.
I have de-registered my activity with the Financas to allow me to work and I realise I will have to file a final tax return in April/May.
I am a resident here and wondered if I have to inform the authorities (which ones) that I am leaving Portugal.

Tax on Property Sale
Please can anyone tell me:
1) If I have sold a property here and have capital gains and then re-invest that profit in a house purchase in the UK, does tax still apply to that gain here in Portugal?
2) How to calculate the tax due here if the money is not re-invested?
Many thanks

When you break the cost down to an hourly rate (8 hours a day) and the fact that it includes lunch, dinner (I don't have to cook!!) and drinks; then I thought it was excellent value for money.
You can also go on an ad-hoc daily basis if you prefer, just ring in the morning to check place availability.

Summer Childcare
For any working parents who need summer holiday child care, I have found a summer programme of care and entertainment at Play Oasis in Ferragudo, looks a great programme, cooking, sewing, growing plants and veg, play at end of the camp, orienteering and loads more.
