Martins Kulinarium

Anyone tried this place as yet? Martin and Anette have opened up in what might have been Estrela do Mar (spelling?). Directions - if you go to the top of restaurant hill past A Rede and Vimar, take the first left and continue on for 400m. It just sits on the corner. When we were there, their new sig...

Re: Mosquitoes

No - they are lovely creatures - very timid but if you are careful, over time they seem to get to know you and come out. To amuse guests I have collected a few mozzies - killed unnaturally by the rolled newspaper method !! - put them in my hand and had geckos literally eating out of my hand. So if ...

Re: Evora

We took the A2 -> IP2 route which takes you past Beja. According to Google maps, this is 221km and will take you 2 hours and 54 minutes. Didn't take us that long, but budget for it. Think it's the A2 that's a toll road. Just put the following into google maps and you can change your route to suit. C...

Re: Deep fried mars bars

lol - I have never seen a deep fried mars bar in any chippys, but then again, I don't really frequent them any more. I still remember being surprised at getting a pizza that wasn't deep fried (I was very young at the time).

Re: Evora

Agreed. A very nice place to visit. It obviously takes a couple hours to get there from CVO, but we spent a while wandering around the centre of town looking around. We took in the chapel of bones and spent a while in the adjacent park, sitting in the shade with an ice-cream. Lovely. The countryside...

Re: June 2011 Newsletter

Margarida's newsletter certainly makes for a good read. Interesting to hear there is a new music venue in Lagoa. Shame I'll be off home by the time Morcheeba pitch up.

Job is still in Accordeo - so things haven't changed there!
Many thanks for the update. We shall see him in July!

Re: Restaurant Review Summer 2010

@fmm

Do you know what the plans are for the Villa Medici building? As we usually stay at the top of the hill, the Accordeao is our usual haunt. Also, would you know whether Jo is there again this year? He was in two minds about it last year.

Re: Centianes Beach temporarily closed

The power of the wind and sea is truly AWESOME!!! In a period of 24 hours, the sea has deposited 1000's of cubic metres of sand back on this beach, returning sand where there was none...and building the overall level back up by 3 or 4 metres. The beach is open again, just in time for Easter. If I h...

I was in Antwerp two years ago and they had more than their fair share of said elephants. Perhaps some have migrated to CVO? :D

Re: Stage in the square

I have to say that the entertainment on the last weekend of August (the festival Sunday) was good fun. The square was packed and locals and tourists seemed to be having a whale of a time. Our two grandsons were alternating between watching the stage acts and running about on the beach. After the fir...

Re: Car Hire comparison

Persistent litlle begger, this one  Spam, it gets everywhere! On topic-ish. We had decided that we would need an estate for our recent visit (I think I should probably use the old-fashioned word stationwagon, which is now fashionable again...) and that I might have trouble locating one, being...

Re: The Black Stove - Live (ly) still?

^^^ That's the bloke. I thought he had a particularly good voice and some of his arrangements of the covers were quite original. Mind you, in general, I'm with Michael. When on holiday, most live music washes past me (unless it's traditional Portuguese), as my taste in music is not really represente...

Re: The Black Stove - Live (ly) still?

Just my tuppence worth. We got back on the 3rd form another great holiday in Carvoeiro, this time with our son and 8 and 9 year old grandsons, who both had a whale of a time. We stopped off at the Black Stove a couple of times on the way up the hill during the afternoon for a refreshment to cool us ...
