Thanks to all who posted and provided info/opinions. After much discussion last night we have decided that this area isn't for us. We've decided to leave it for this year and agreed that when we visit Portugal it will be somewhere further inland. We'll hire a car and visit the coast on the days we f...

OK, this might be a strange question but has anyone been to Polychrono in Halkidiki?
We stayed there last year and it was an ideal base, if someone could give me a direct comparison it would help make up my mind.

Thanks,
Dawn.

Thanks for that pwr. As we don't want to stay on a development it's reassuring to hear there are still places away from them.

By late Aug, I mean the 28th or 29th - is it still busy with kids/families then?? (you can tell I don't have any can't you?!!) My hubby is granted a long leave period each year, which this year is the 26th of Aug - 15th Sept so we are restricted as to when we can go. I must admit from the replies I'...

Mike, the place we are looking at is Casa Lorne. Address - Areias dos Moinhos, 8400 Carvoeiro LGA, Algarve I seem to be getting conflicting messages on here but I suppose it's the same as anywhere - some people will like it, some won't. If Carvoeiro is full of villa/tourist developments then Uggie's...

Mountain Biking in the Algarve

We are looking to stay in Carvoeiro/Burgau area in late August.
My hubby is a keen mountain biker - can anyone tell me if there are any good trails around the area and if bike hire is available?

Thanks,
Dawn.

OK, thanks Uggie.
The place we've found is 15 mins from the town centre and looks OK, but of course I don't know where it is in relation to developments etc.

Anyone know Burgau?

Is there anyone on here that can tell me something about Burgau?
Along with Carvoeiro, it was the other place recommended for me to stay in the Algarve. Trouble is I can't find much out about it.
Does anyone know of any good websites for places to stay / find some general info?

Thanks,
Dawn

Thanks for the info Ric and Visitoria. I don't want a tourist mecca so it's reassuring to hear that there aren't any large developments. I must admit I was beginning to wonder as this site mentioned a lot of developments. As a native, what can you tell me about these developments? Are they in the ce...
