Re: Car rental, yes again.
Have to agree with Widge, I don't believe the change from ECH to Zest has brought any benefits. I e-mailed them to ask why RIS and Luz Cars had seemingly been dropped from their offering. They had been among my favourites. They confirmed they were no longer operating with RIS or Luz Cars, and claime...

Re: Car hire and the new Airport Tax system
Agree with everything you say. I returned 2 weeks ago just after the farce was introduced and the same thought went through my mind - this is never going to work once the season starts to get busy (its only 2 weeks to Easter!). We've looked a few times at the idea of buying a car but because most of...

Re: An option for occasional Internet users
Yes I can second that. Got a mobile wi-fi device. I was advised that the Vodafone ones are best. Cost of the device including sim card was 40 odd euros. Been using it (off and on) since September. Similar to mobile phone sims you just have to make sure there's a top up done once every 3 months. A gr...

Re: Goldcar
Just adding my tuppence worth in agreement with all previous posts. Goldcar are bad news. I reckon its only those unfamiliar with the Algarve, or car hire companies that get stitched up by these and the other cowboys out there so there is a responsibility for us all to spread the word, exactly as we...

Re: shopping
The shop in Lagos with the permanent closing down sale to which everybody is referring is "Algifa". It's been an endless source of amusement to us each time we visit to see it still open. I have to say though, last time we were in it (mid September), the stock levels in the shop were very low lookin...

Re: villa to airport transfers
My son (not old enough yet to hire a car), and his 5 mates used Gentlebee.com recently for a return transfer Faro-Lagos for 6 of them was €158. Droppoed off and picked up from door of villa. Excellent service.

Re: Tolls!
Well guys its been a while since we've had any discussion on the subject that has a special place in everyones heart! Earlier in the year when we were smirking about taking our rental cars up and down the A22 with no toll charges ever getting passed on, the general concensus was this would be sorted...

The Sliding Euro
OK, this is an appeal to all the economic brainboxes out there! With the euro in a bit of a slide at the moment (getting close to €1.25 / £1), we can currently get the best deal on exchanging sterling for about 3 years. However, with the latest twists to the political landscape in Europe, (Greece & ...

Agree with Pickwick.
When I received the same notification (by e-mail!), I was rather encouraged as I took the main topic of the message to be a deregulation of the market - which can only be a good thing for the punter.

Re: Nepresso Coffee Maker
Thanks guys for a fascinating insight into the latest machines on the market. I bought a Krupps expresso machine about 4 years ago in Modello, and at the time it cost about €60. I couldn't believe it because the same machine in UK at the time was close to £100. It uses ground coffee from the packet ...

Re: Tolls!
Just back from my second trip to the beautiful Algarve since the tolls were introduced. On the first trip at the end of January, when picking up the hire care I signed a form agreeing any toll charges could be charged to my credit card. None ever were despite using the A22 to / from the airport. Thi...

Re: Tolls!
Very interesting what Joe has to say about fuel consumption on the A22. Anyone else found the same? So take the 125 and save tolls, hassleof paying, and fuel! I suppose thats all ok for now but will it be as simple as that come the busier periods? On my last visit (returned home 31st January), Isign...
