looking for places to eat in CVO for my son and myself...both veggies (no fish) which MUST be child friendly  . My son is 12 but has an autistic disorder so no posh places please!!! Just somewhere comfy and welcoming that I can sit and relax and enjoy my meal..and he can have a drink..watch cartoons maybe..or just sit and play quietly in a corner....hopefully waiting...thanks :D

Annie, my wife is stictly veggie (no fish) so I understand at least half your question... here's a (partial) list that we recommend:

Barnhards on the left side of the hill going down into Ferragudo (car needed). Lovely Irish couple run it. Very veggie friendly and child friendly.
Casa Algarvia at the top of "Restaurant Hill" in CVO. More typical portuguese, very popular, bustling, but they try hard to cater for veggies, and no problem with children.
O Salmao in Monte Carvoeiro Square. Chef is Scottish, wife is Portuguese and speaks very good English with scottish-portuguese accent (something to hear !). Slightly more up market, slightly more expensive, but great location and good home cooking, where children can play around the fountain.

As a general rule (according to she who must be obeyed), if the menu outside the typical portuguese restaurants does not explicitly list vegetarian options, they will attempt to cook you a risotto or some pasta dish, or the ubuquitous omellete, but she's frequently also been fobbed off with a plate of boiled vegetables, so beware and check before sitting down. Otherwise, there's always the Indian, Chinese or various Pizza places.

Its all a lot more veggie friendly than it was 5 years ago. Enjoy :D
