Organic Farm Shop

Post by Lesley Jean »

Has anyone else been to the farm shop on the road behind the Faticil? (the one from the small roundabout to the road that goes into cvo)
It is called Da Terra and is up the road opposite the large blue sign that says something about PVC ! it does have a sign at the end of the road.

It is a great little shop with lots of nice veg and fruit as well as jams, pickles and other 'healthy' foods. We found it this holiday and have had the nicest veg since we have been here, it has a wonderful flavour.

Open Wednesday, Friday and Saturday 9am - 1pm.

(hope this is not considered as advertising as this is just a great find I wanted to tell everyone about, hope it will make a good go of it)

We have used it many times - they provided the brussel sprouts for all of our Christmas dinners :D

We totally agree - it is a fantastic shop and well worth a visit

Question?.... When it is generally recognised that Brussel sprouts arent worth eating until after they have been exposed to the first frost to tighten them up....how on earth can you buy fresh homegrown Brussels in the Algarve???

If they are imports....how can it be a genuine Farm Shop?

 Bruce, I can assure you that it is a true organic farm shop, I don't know about the sprouts, then you get sprouts in the supermarkets in the UK all year round so they do grow in the hotter countries, just maybe because they don't get the hard frosts here, they are maybe not so nice as the ones in the UK, but hey..... a sprout is a sprout......

The other veg is lovely, hope others do try it as I would like to think they make a good go of it and are still here in the autumn and winter when we will be out again, I would much rather buy my veg from this shop that the supermarkets.

The portuguese love their brussel sprouts, it's funny that I only associate them really with winter roast dinners or Christmas dinner but they seem to serve them here all year round with anything. Believe it or not in the winter in the Algarve you do get frost, very light & doesn't hang around for long, but we still get it. :D

Forgot to say the organic farm shop is very good. :D

Da Terra has been there for a few years now, so I assume they're making it pay

James and Suzannah work very hard to supply the shop with all its goodies - nice to see it's appreciated
