Sky + help please

Post by gilva18 »

Hi
My elderly parents live in Val de Milho and have Sky which they brought out from the UK and still pay their sky bill in England from another sons address. (Not strictly by the rules I know)
They would like Sky +, how could they go about this in Portugal, can they upgrade there, would they need to upgrade in England and bring the sky + box back out or could they simply start afresh and get sky and sky + from Portugal. If so, who with and what cost?
Any advice appreciated as always.
Thank you

The villa we rent has Sky but the signal is so weak at times that I don't think Sky+ would work too well.

Our friends took out their sky+ box over easter and it worked well, maybe not as good as the channels in the villa but totally acceptable. It may depend on the size of the satellite dish already in place

When it comes to TV reception, size is very important!

And the weather. Rain will take it down. Which is a bummer as that's when you would probably want to watch TV :(

You can buy Sky and Sky+ here through a dealer, who I assume registers it with a UK address.
A Sky package including box, dish and installation costs from around €500 I think, Sky+ is more, then you have your subscription on top of that.
We just brought a couple of old Sky boxes with us from the UK and bought a (very large) dish from a dealer here, so we get the freesat channels without any extra charges.
Our reception is very good, except for when the weather is bad.

We bought our TV & have Sky+ through Marc-electronica who are on the EN125 in Almancil, they were really helpful.
