What is it like?
While looking at the lovely photographs taken by Peter belefante
(http://www.gallery.carvoeiro.com/spgm/) in december 2003 I noticed Carvoeiro to be far more quiet than it was during my visit in July 2003.
I was thinking that all the changes during the year from crowded, packed to empty nearly deserted must be hard for people who live in carvoeiro. What is it really like? Is the change indeed as drastic as it seems on the pictures or is it still cosy and nice (not deserted) Do locals look forward to the summer season or do most of them prefer the quiet times at fall, winter and spring?

I don't live there, but I'd like to. We only go in early March (or just lately, Christmas & New Year) and it is just wonderful.
I would probably hate it during the season because I abhor crowds and do my best to avoid them.
We have visited at all times of the year, and have been resident since beg October. This winter we have had pretty good weather, apart from a stormy spell in Nov, and it's certainly not deserted as there are lots of people who come for long winter lets.
I much prefer winter here and am not really looking forward to the heat and crowds of the summer - obviously you take a chance with the weather out of season but it is still possible to have lunch outside and do a spot of sunbathing!

Think I would have to agree totally with Kteee and Michael on this one.
I wouldn't holiday in CVO in the very hot months of July/August....when we were resident(11 years ago now)...I found it very hard to cope 'working'(and my work is outdoors) in the terrifically high temps..and when I wanted to 'escape'to the fresh sea air..the beach absolutely packed with bodies!!
In fact ..our recent hol of Sep/Oct/03...the temps then were unusually high..but not quite so crowded.
As Ktee says..you take your chance in winter/spring.. weather wise..but can be gorgeous Jan/Feb...temps just right..and theres all those beautiful wild flowers in bloom ...almond blossom...oh my..why aint I there
P.S.Kteee ..youve brought back lovely memories then..of eating breakfast in warm sunshine,outside on our villa patio(when we lived near Porches),on early Jan.mornings

I think that was a very good question and I have been very interested in the answers so far, however I do have a further one - what about amenities?
I am asking that because as most of you know I live in a holiday town which fortunately has a very long season, mainly pensioners in the fall and spring, youngsters and families from Easter through to september. Outside of the season (albeit it a long one), many shops, restaurants, attractions (e.g. zoo's, activity parks, etc) close and there are parts of town that feel like a ghost town. Does that happen there too?
Another thing which irritated the locals here in South Devon was when we celebrated the Millenium, no major events were held on Dec 31/Jan 1 but were all council ones were arranged for the season, putting the emphasis on providing them as an "extra" for the tourists rather than a treat for the locals.
Anyway, basically what I am asking is whether there is any of that in cvo.

It doesn't feel like a ghost town here at the moment. Some restaurants are closed but there is still plenty of choice, if anyone's interested I'll have a look round and give a list of those places still open now.
There are lots of groups of golfers and couples on long winter lets, we were in Casa Algarvia on Saturday and it was very busy, the same goes for Cantinho last Tuesday night and Oasis on Friday. You can, however, get parked on Estrada do Farol!!!
The water parks are closed at the moment but will probably re-open at Easter, Zoomarine is normally open but they are closed at the moment for refurbishiment.
The weather last week was fantastic, still cool at night - we even had a touch of frost Weds/Thurs, but brilliant sunshine during the day and temps in the early 20s. We even sat outside Smilers to have coffee about 5-5.30 this afternoon. If you can get away just now and get a cheap flight you could get a really nice, cheap week.
According to the forecast we are in for some showers towards the end of the week, but we can't complain!

Hi, since the 31st of December i became a resident of Carvoeiro. I am young but i do love it here. Sometimes it is quiet but the best way to see Carvoeiro with her charmes. You see the locals and get to know them. It is not always quiet. During the weekend there is activity here for every age. I was affraid that I would get bored here but not one day since i came here i was bored or got a bad feeling about it.

Well Ktee, it sure sounds lovely to be @ CVO this time of year. I follow the weather reports on the news for you area and saw indeed temps rose up to 20 dg. Celcius. Amazing for this time of year!!!
Like Maddi describes, I can indeed imagine some parts to turn into Ghost town when season is over but on the other hand carvoeiro isn't that big so little chance big areas would be deserted.
Eva, I must have read in in another post but forgooten about it. What is the reason for you to live in carvoeiro?What Country did you come from? Interesting stories these are.
From the time I was little (toddler) I told everybody that I would leave my country one day to go and live somewhere else. I still believe that!
