Daisy

[quote="Lesley Jean"]MORE DAISY PICS!!

This is from a friend who went round to see Daisy, she took some more pictures, she is improving every day.

"She is adorable! Although still a little poorly with her skin, she has obviously improved greatly and was even skipping about a bit when my friends and I took her some more food, biscuits and her medication earlier this evening. I managed to give her a bit of a cuddle against me when I went to say goodbye. Such a sweetie and she would make someone a lovely companion. Her life is a lot more comfortable than it was, and whilst she is having all her needs met by my friends, including a little, gentle walk around the block, she really needs a nice and permanent home!! The kind people that paid for her medical bills are calling every day from the UK to see how she is!"

Could your friends from England not give Daisy a home as they obviously think a lot about her to pay her bills? We also found a stray dog in Carvoeiro with ticks and fleas also in a quite bad way. We had to kennel him with Jan at kennels in Val di Rei for one year as he failed his first rabies check but managed to bring him home to England two years ago this October. He has settled down really well and is very much part of our family. His year in kennels has not affected him and Jan looked after him really well. We wish Daisy all the best.

Daisy is looking so much better & I think when her coat grows in fully she is going to be really rather beautiful.

Can someone give me directions for Jan's kennels in Val de Rei, I have been up & down that main road so many times & still not seen a sign.

There isn't a sign off the main road, but coming from Carvoeiro, turn right at the triangle just before the school and the turning for Quinta do Rosal on the left.

The road becomes a dirt track, follow it round to the right and Jan is along there on the right

The two friends who are looking after her at the moment are living in Portugal but both are unable to give her a permanent home as they both already have a number of dogs. The people who own the villa where she is being kept, who are back in the UK are unable to offer her a home in the UK unfortunately. Hence the desperate plea for a good home in the Algarve.

There are so many dogs who need homes we know but had hoped that this plea would have ended up with a really nice home for her, no luck so far tho'

Sorry to keep on about Daisy but thought I would update you.

Daisy's blood tests came back today positive for leishmaniasis. I think we all suspected she had it. Anyway, while not great news, it isn't the end of the world. It just now means that she will have to have tablets for the rest of her life. Luckily they are quite cheap at €4.32 for 50 tablets (she will need 2 a day).

The vet also prescribed her iodine solution and cream for her skin. Her fur has started growing back already and most of it should come back in around another 3 to 4 weeks, especially since she is now being treated with all the correct medications.

Here are some nice pictures taken earlier:

I would if I lived in Portugal but as she has Leishmaniasis if I remember from when we brought our stray dog to England she would not be allowed into England. I am out to Carvoeiro in 2 weeks and will ask a few people I know if they could offer her a home.

I only came on here tonight to see if poor Daisy had found a home yet! I can't believe that she is still looking for someone to give her a good home !! Surely someone out there can help ... !!
It brakes my heart every time we come to Portugal to see these poor stray dogs most of them in terrible condition and just starving .

What a wonderful job you've done on her , she hardly looks like the same dog !!
She must really want to live and be loved after going through so much .
Its not much to ask is it ... ?

I knew Daisy was going to turn out to be a beauty, she looks wonderful. I know how much time & effort must have gone into getting her so well. I do hope somebody can offer her a home, unfortunately we have our hands (& our house) rather full at the moment.
