Modelo and Continente are part of the same chain. As there is a Continente in the Portimao retail park, I'm sure they didnt need to be competing with themselves!
So long as the prices are better than Intermarche it could only be good.
Pingo Doce is a disappointment in comparison to Plus.
I am very disappointed. First we lose Plus now Modelo. I don't like Pingo Doce and have no idea what this other place will be like
I noticed the Modelo signs had all been broken when we drove past today so asssumed it had now gone.
Helen said that when Modelo closed she had heard that Jumbo would replace it like the Jumbo in Faro. What is Pao de Acucar is it still a supermarket?? Perhaps Helen you can fill us in with what you know.
As was stated in the original post Pão de Açucar is opening next week where Modelo previously traded in Lagoa. This is part of the Jumbo / Auchan supermarket chain.
They have a Pao de Acucar in Cascais, its along the same lines as Modelo, but in my humble opinion, better. Havent been for a while so can't comment on prices.
Apparently, as has been said previously, it is owned by Jumbo. Jumbo is found at larger premises and Pão de Açúcar is for the smaller ones, a bit like Continente is the larger supermarkets and Modelo is the smaller ones. Hope this makes sense, have just come back from my holiday in Scotland and am a bit tired.
Went into Pão de Açúcar on Saturday. I quite liked it although they were still stocking some of the shelves. They have a good fresh fish & meat section and you can get frozen venison, boar and partridge. They also sell fresh cut flowers and plants. Prices seemed reasonable too.
