Carvoeiro Sol or Mirachoro Praia?

We are regular visitors to Carvoeiro (self catering), but this time visiting in october half term and plan to book a hotel.Please can any of you out there advise us on our choice ?

Depends what you want, the Carvoeiro Sol is right on the square, in the centre of everything the beach, the bars, restaurants, small supermarkets etc but we found it very noisy, you would need to make sure you had a room which did not front the square. The Mirachoro is a much larger hotel, up the hill (known by locals as restaurant hill) also close to bars and restaurants but a walk to the beach. Much quieter but the food there is not so good, breakfast is buffet style and pretty basic.

Not having stayed at the Mirachoro I can’t really comment other than to say the reviews I have seen have not been that good, but maybe someone else would like to comment. However, I have stayed at the Carvoeiro Sol a few times I find it OK, can’t really beat it for location, it also has its own (heated) swimming pool, if you want a room next to the pool ask for either 122,123 or 124 extremely handy if you like to laze by the pool all day. Breakfast is passable and the evening meals are quite good, they don’t do lunch. The staff are all very friendly and helpful and the bar does a Happy Hour between 5 and 6 with some very tasty cocktails. Whichever hotel you chose, have a great time.

we tend to agree with Sam S. Everyone is so friendly there at the CVO Sol and the 'happy hour' was always a good time. Made many a friend when we used to stay there especially at Happy Hour. The pool is great and those rooms sugested are perfect and quiet as they do not front onto the square. Agree that breakfast is passable but it does have the added bonus of putting together what you fancy to eat and watch the Germans pile fruit etc away for the lunch rucksacks. Dinner was good, but ideal for a first night. Perfect location. Then we tended to find the restuarants round and about.
The hotel Mirachoro, although we have not stayed there, a friend has stayed there and we have visited a few times. The food is dreadful, especially the breakfast. The lounge, bars and pool areas are really lovely and the staff, pleasant. But it does lack something. The heated indoor pool is gross, so do not bother with it. It is dark, dank, underground and has the feel of an underground badly lit carpark that has changed its mind for use.
Out of those two, personally I find the CVO Sol, much the better bet, however, there are other much lovlier hotels in CVO I could suggest, and of course dependent on price, location etc., but, for closeness to the happening, then those two are the choice with CVO Sol being my favourite.

I stayed at the Mirachoro and the food was not dreadful, breakfast was similar to the breakfast we had at the Almansor! The rooms are spacious and clean and the staff extremely friendly.

Almansor is lovely but pricey and, unless you have a car, it is a bit of a hike from the bottom of the hill

Never stayed at the CVO Sol but i always imagine it would have that damp smell you get from somewhere old and unloved!!!

It's a case of horse for courses to be honest and what one man might like you can guarantee another wont!

We have stayed at both the Sol and Mira C.
and of the 2, I would prefer the Sol in the Winter as you are down in town, if the weather should be wet.
As for a room near the pool / or on the inside away from the Restraunt hill road, as that is where it tends to be noisy especially if on the lower floor.
Breakfasts in both places are very similar but good.
The staff in either hotel are helpful.
The Sol has a quieter Decor. The Mira C has to be seen!
