Getting Married in Carvoeiro

Post by sujeffs »

We would like to get married in Carvoeiro in September. We have looked at the other posts and have some idea of the potential problems we could face. However, we have both been married before and wonder if that is going to cause us a few problems. We have not been able to get an answer to this one so would be grateful if anyone reading this knows. We only want a simple ceremony with a meal afterwards (probably in O Algar if we can arrange it). Any help or advice would be gratefully received. Thanks. :D

Hi
As you have probably read on other threads it isn't possible (unless you have been resident in Portugal for a while prior to wedding) to have a legally binding wedding in Portugal but you can do what myself and others have done and have a wedding blessing ceremony. My husband had previously been married and this didn't cause an issue.

We had a quiet registry office wedding in the UK in August '04 and then had a wedding blessing ceremony in Caldas de Monchique 4 weeks later. The latter being the more special of the two as we had all of our close friends / family there and have some fantastic memories of a very special day.

I wouldn't let this put you off though!
I know there are other members on here who have done similar and I am sure they will vouch for what I have said about how special the day can be!!

Go for it and good luck!

Hi

My husband and I got married in carvoeiro last october - we got married legally first in the UK (registry office) then a week later flew out to portugal, we had our wedding at the Tivoli it was a fantastic day i couldn't have wished for anything better - and yes i agree this one was the most special as our friends and family were there.

to get married legally in portugal and for it to be recognised back in the UK you have to be resident for 30 days prior.

Just a short note to thank you for your advice earlier in the year. We now have most things planned and the 'wedding'will take place at the Almansor in September with a few(!) family members present. We had no idea so many would make the effort to attend. As far as all are concerned this is the real thing! Will let you know how it goes. Sue :D

Hi

We attended a wedding blessing in Alvor followed by a magnificent reception at The Almansor last September - it was a fantastic event with the hotel providing an excellent backdrop driven by service from the hotel team of the highest order.

I sincerely hope your day is as memorable.

Thank you for your happy birthday note. We would much rather be over there than here today! The wedding was absolutely fantastic and I'm really sorry I did not post a reply when we got back here. The Hotel were really helpful and Fia excellent - nothing was too much trouble for her. Our guests could not believe the beautiful location and said they had never been to such a lovely wedding. The sun shone, the food was superb, Joao Branco, our guitarist had the room rocking all night and our family and friends had a thoroughly great time. We could not have wished for anything better. I agree with one of the earlier comments - it was so good we would like to do it all over again!! We took over the Masiqueria (I think that is how to spell it) next to the Accordeo Bar the night after and had another fantastic meal hosted by Joao and, again, we were made to feel really special. Can't wait to come back. Sue :D
