Good Rose
Good Rose
Coming out for the first time in less than 2 weeks. Absolutely can't wait. I can see myself now by the pool lounging in the sun with a glass of rose ( or few ) in my hand. When we get there I will have to get some supplies in. What is a good rose and how much can I be expected to pay for it please?
Re: Good Rose
Here we go... a couple
Light refreshing Rose' wines are Casal Mendez, around 3/4 euros if I remember
and Lancers, just a bit more expensive and the obvious Mateus Rose
Served very, very chilled and whilst sitting around the pool in the sunshine in Carvoeiro is the recommended way to drink them.
Have a great time

Re: Good Rose
Dare I ask but would Mateus Rose fall into the category of "good rose".
Anyone have any other suggestions for good Portugese Rose or is it better to stick to the French stuff?

Re: Good Rose
This may be contentious, but I consider Mateus Rose to be a cheap mass appeal wine brought out in the 70s for the maiden aunts who wanted to look adventurous and cosmopoliton. A bit like the french Piat-dor.
There is a big choice of rose' wines from all over Portugal, at least one of those from the local Lagoa co-operative.
Experiment, and discover your own favourite.

Our favourite is "Defesa" as served in the Caneiros beach restaurant. Not always available in Intermarche so tend to stock up when its in.

That is so VERY true.... haha
We like to go to the local supermarket as see what is on offer, there are a lot of really nice rose out there, I tend to go for the lightest in colour as they are usually drier than the darker ones, as Bruce said experiment, it is half the fun...

And obviously the more you try the more fun it becomes
