I have used Travelrent and Drive4Fun on several occasions via Economycarhire and have had no problems. I had to ring them once about a fault light on the dashboard display and they were very helpful.

I don't know why (perhaps it's because of this forum and my emails and phone calls?) but at the moment, International are greyed out on ECH!

Thank you Lesley Jean. And thank you, Michael. Over in June and booked with ECH - you have put my mind at rest as I had been a bit concerned about this situation.

Very strange why would a company change their name suddenly?? Something does not sound right. economycarhire.com must know why the change in name from Sevis to International Car.

If you have a well established company why change the name. I think this is done to cover up the misuse of customer credit cards,

Other forums are also shouting loud about Sevis / International Car and economy car hires relationship.

My advices keep well away from Sevis / International Car.

Really surprised with ECH sloppy reply and aptitude. I used them a lot, but will stop using them. No business ethics.

What is the world coming too…….

Has anyone used rentauto? they're another company that economy car rental use from faro. Considering booking a car with them for 2 weeks - one way rental faro to porto. The bad press I'm hearing about sevis is making me reconsider but they've very competitive prices :D

Have not used Rentauto but never heard of any bad reports about them. Have used ECH on many occasions personally and for our guests and no problems with them either. However, I would not use Sevis/International via anyone.

I've been using Decode car hire Faro airport when going to my business trips and the good thing is that they show which rental companies they work with because I have used also some local companies but wasn't satisfied with their serviss so now I can chose a car from exact company.

Hi,
I rented car by International Car in Lisabon. I gave garantee on my credit card 750 euro. After delivery the car this garantee was unblocked. So we flied away, back home. Then we relized on internetbanking that 750 euro are blocked again and now are money in their pocket. I dont know how it can be done. How they can blocked money on account without us. I contacted my bank ant probably it will be solved by them like misuse of bank informations. Real disapointment.

Damn. I knew I recognised the name. I ended up with International this year and am due to return the car on Monday to them. I very much hope they don't do anything dodgy. Booked through economycarrentals.com THey have given excellent service over the past few years, but tend to get me cars through airauto. Will wait and see, I suppose.

A few years back I had to use my credit card to guarantee the excess and I paid cash for the rental. What I objected to was that the car rental guy insisted on taking my security number from the back of the card. I told him there was no reason to take a note of this for he had seen me and the card and it was used for an extra level of security when used via the web.

He still made a note of it . . . and I immediately got onto Visa, told them my card gad been compromised and they cancelled it for me there and then! They said he had no right to the security number if I was present.

This very interesting - we used AutoAlgarve for several years and were always very pleased - the always took an imprint of the credit card but not the security number. They were absorbed by SEVIS early last year, but the same practice was used and we always had the imprint returned when we collected the card.

But not long after the absorbtion, the prices went up by ~20% and we started to shop around again - got 3 consecutive hires with Economy Car hire - all were with a different companies when we got the car, as they are "bucket shop agents" - On one hire as we were picking up the car, we heard a familiar voice of Paulo the autoalgarve man saying "Ive got your keys, this row" I told him we had hired from economy car hire and he said "be very, very careful with them when you return your car as they will always find damage you didnt know about" When we returned the car the man checked it and found a scratch on the bumper which was not on the original form - I just looked at him and said - so what, we have full Insurance and excess waiver. He looked at me and handed over the imprint.

After an incident with a bottle being thrown at the car in 1994 - which cost me € 90, I have always ensured we had "full" insurance including excess waiver - Economy car hire do include this as standard. If this is included there is no need to give them a credit card print - if they insist (one said it was to ensure we brought the car back) you can then call your CC bank just before returning the car and tell them NOT to honour any debit from the company after a cetain date.

not sure i get this - if you use the card as a guarantee you usually sign a blank cc form with an imprint of your card on it. as a retailer, i am required to check the signature made against that on the credit card in which case it is pretty hard not to see the security number (which is, after all, only 3 digits) - if i was that way inclined i'm sure i could remember it without having to write it down so what is the point of the credit card company saying he has no right to it?

The security numbers are there to confirm a payment. We are not confirming any payment to the hire car company.
This should only be done when the car is returned " if " they have the right to make the extra charge.
Payment cannot be taken from your card without your agreement.

We have heard of too many scams and bogus damage claims to consider any of those companies beginning with a E.
They get custom with a very competative lead in price but make their profit with exorbitent damage claims taking money from previously obtained CC details.

Algarvedriver or as it is known YOR car hire on the home page of this site is the best company to go with we always use then.
