Taxi and/or car hire Faro-Carvoeiro?

Post by Wender »

Sorry if this has been asked a million times before:

We are a group of 8 adults and 2 infants flying to Faro in June and staying in Carvoeiro for 2 weeks. Lots of luggage and some equipment for the two children...

QUESTION: Should we hire cars at Faro and drive ourselves, or get taxis and hire smaller cars in carvoeiro?

Any recommendations? have anyone used www.algarve-airport-transfers.com or any other service like this?

Any recommendations on car hire?

Thanks!

How would one feel if one was involved in and accident in a ilegal transfer vehical, and one of the party was injured? There would be no compensation?, plus both driver and customer would face criminal charges.
All this just to save a few quid!!!!!
Think about it!!!

Thanks for the input people,

The main question was really: Should we spend lots of money on two BIG cars from Faro, or rely on taxi from the airport and hire two SMALL cars for the stay in Carvoeiro only.

Transport to and from the airport would need a LOT more space for luggage and other stuff, which we don't need while staying in Carvoeiro...

Suggestions? What do you think would be the most affordable option?

Thanks.

We were in Carvoeiro in March and used www.algarve-airport-transfers.com. They were very good, were waiting at Faro when we arrived and picked us up from our hotel when we left. It cost 50 euros each way and they used mini-buses that could seat (I think) 8 people - there were only two of us. Anyway, I'd recommend them. We rented a small car for a few days while we were in Carvoeiro, have a walk round the various rental companies, they are quite competitive and you can get some really cheap deals.

As an alternative you could also hire two small cars and a transfer, that way you can split up passangers and luggage over all three vehicles. Add to that that a transfer for four people only costs EUR 50,-- instead of the usual EUR 70,-- and you will have a deal that is a lot cheaper than hiring 2 big vehicles for a longer period.

You can find this offer and more under http://www.easygo-holidays.pt/

Worked with them for the past 8 years and there were very few problems that were also solved quickly and without complication.

P.S. They are a legal transfer company.

Hi Wender,
The straight answer to your question is - Hire a Mini bus to collect you at the airport. No hastle at the start of your holiday. Arrive at your villa, settle in, and next day, hire whatever cars you require for your needs. Telephone Roy at (00 351) 282 357644. I think it is about €70 each way.

www.algarvedriver.com will supply you with two group A cars with free upgrade to 5 door group B for a cost of 125 euro per car per week (delivered in Faro airport with free child seats).

Add on top of this a www.algarvedriver.com airport transfer with an extra vehicle for luggage and eventually passengers at a cost of 43 euro each way.

The total cost for two weeks, including transfer and two cars with childseats: 250+250+43+43= 586 euro or 392 £

Sorry to put a fly in the ointment Steen but do you think it is really feasible to get two adults PLUS a child seat in the back of a group A car?

Wender - I think the answer all depends on what you intend to use the car for in Carvoeiro and how often. It would be difficult to get all ten of you in two small ordinary cars. If you are simply intending to go shopping and to the beach then maybe two small cars making more than one trip will suffice. It also depends whether you actually need cars for the whole fortnight - some of our guests just hire cars for a few days sightseeing in the middle of their holiday and stay local or use taxis for the rest of the time.

I think your choice in the end will come down to budget v convenience knowing how much luggage a couple of infants require I wish you luck!

It did read free upgrade to 5 door Group B...

A 8 seater minibus + 1 small car is obviously also an option
