Re: Who owns that f***ing dog at the top of restaurant hill
The pyscho Great Dane certainly rings true for me! About ten years ago I booked a week's holiday in Montpellier and I rented out a house; in fact it was a cloister of houses owned by the same chap! He had a great dane called Bernard that 'did the rounds' visiting each property and looking for food - he was a popular visitor! One night he visited me and I gave him some food. He then went into my bedroom and fell asleep. Later I tried to get him off the bed and out of the house and was greeted by a loud "grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!" I love dogs but I am not going to pick a fight with a great dane. I thought they were all docile soppy things!EMM wrote:Only 1 dog, your are spoiled, do not know what you are complaining about. We have the alsation next door, the little yapper across the road.
The phsyco great dane cross a few doors away and his two little yapper friends who live opposite. At least 6 others within a couple of hundred metres and who knows how many more that we come across in our travels walking into and back to town.
Count your self lucky, we do we love living here.
I spent the night sleeping on a hard sofa and the dog was content to snore on the bed, happy as larry!
The owner of Bernard should have put him on a hospitality training course!

Satan ( not his real name ) Aka " Bin Dog " is definetly bi polar.
Our relationship has improved to the stage that I can now actually pat him ( provided he gets a doggie treat ) but only in the daylight.
Once the sun sets his alter ego takes over and he becomes the " hound from the Baskervilles ".
He also does not like women very much, his owner is an elderly Portuguese gentlemen who lives on his own.
Sadly Satan is now suffering from hip and back problems and I fear he will not be with us for much longer.
We also had a very old Portuguese water dog who roamed the area, his eyesite was so bad that he used to walk into cars.
Residents always slowed down when he was about.
We also have the sunbathing dog who will not move for anyone or those who turn up at the gate because they know we can be a soft touch.
Our local dogs are not all deprived , neglected , anti social noise machines.

I think I have found my particular culprit.
It is a very spoiled yorkshire terrier that I saw walk into the bar a few months back, crap in front of the pool table, then walk out.
When the owner was told, she shrugged her shoulders and walked off!!!

we have an apartment at monte paraiso, and up until probably 10 months ago all was piece and quiet, however, since then when we have been out there there have been dogs consistently barking and crying from 6.00am, during the day, early evening and at night time and it really drives you bonkers. We know where the dogs are and the property, have reported it to GNR who do not want to know, and believe it or not at our condominum meeting in January, it turned out that one of the apartment owners actually turned out to be the owner of the villa where the dogs are!!!!!! needless to say they denied it was their dogs causing the noise!!!!! We appreciate tbat dogs bark when people arrive and are for security but to be constant all the time, especially when the owners are out and may be, giving the benefit of doubt thatthey do not realise what is going on, they would try to do something about it, however that is not the case. I am out again on the 2nd september so will see how things are but I really think it is unacceptable to this extent and a relaxing holiday for us is turning out to be really stressful when all you want is a bit of piece and quiet.
Re: Who owns that f***ing dog at the top of restaurant hill
Be pro-active. If you know where the dog is, go and record the said noise etc and then show it to the owners at a meeting. Also try and see if any other people on the site find the noise intolerable too. If they do, get them to sign a letter you compose with their addresses and provide that along with the recording to the owners. At least you have something to fight with then.
Re: Who owns that f***ing dog at the top of restaurant hill
In UK we had a neighbouring property that was a winter let. The dog barked almost constantly when the owners were out, but not when they were in. A complaint to the letting agent did nothing. I presume others had complained as they said they already knew about it. I bought a dog whistle and when the dog had been particularly bad, usually at night, I would blow it when the tenants were in. It was childish, but oh soooo satisfying to hear the hullabaloo, particularly early in the morning as I left for work and they were trying to have a lie in.

Oh no! That's where we've stayed for last 9 years and we're coming out on the 4th for 10 days. It used to be bad in that area but last few years not so bad. We'll have to see what it's like in next couple of weeks.Dial wrote:we have an apartment at monte paraiso, and up until probably 10 months ago all was piece and quiet, however, since then when we have been out there there have been dogs consistently barking and crying from 6.00am, during the day, early evening and at night time and it really drives you bonkers. If i can't stand it i'll probably go around to the house and make an issue of it. Alternatively we like a few late 'ones' in CVO and i'll make sure we make a lot of singing noise when we get back outside the guilty villa - however, that will also disturb others so i'll have to hatch a plan.

I think it is great fun having a barking and yappy little chappy in the area BUT if it is all day and night, then there is a problem!Dial wrote:we have an apartment at monte paraiso, and up until probably 10 months ago all was piece and quiet, however, since then when we have been out there there have been dogs consistently barking and crying from 6.00am, during the day, early evening and at night time and it really drives you bonkers. To be honest I don't think the GNR would be much use to you as it is solely a minor problem with you and your neighbor - minor in the GNR's eyes, I wish to stress!
Are the neighbors Portuguese or English? The dogs may be hungry all day long and that would make them temperamental and bark incessantly. If you threw them a few scraps of food that may calm the down and they may get to know you as a friendly face. I know this is a far-fetched solution but it may work!

Re: Who owns that f***ing dog at the top of restaurant hill
thanks for the replies and suggestions. In answer to the questions, the owners are portuguese and QDP is not far from Monte Paraiso so I am sure we may be talking about the same dobermans!!! WE have no problems with dogs barking for security but when it is early morning, during the day and all night it does become really annoying and stressing when all you want is a bit of piece and quiet. I am out again next week from 2nd September, so will see how it goes and am sure will hear from other apartment owners if it has been bad since we were last there in july. Will keep you posted and thanks again.

Well do keep us posted! The dogs may have settled-in by then. They may have been brought to the property and were "sounding out the place!"If this is the case they may by now be familiar in their surroundings and a lot less noisy...............touch wood!Dial wrote:thanks for the replies and suggestions. Got this lovely tip from Twitter:
GET REVENGE on neighbours with dogs that bark all night by stealing the dog & putting it in YOUR garden to see how THEY like it
