Is Metal Detecting allowed in the Algarve ??

Hi, I wonder if any of you can help. I contacted the webmaster@carvoeiro.com and was recommended to post my question on this forum.

My husband and I want to come to the Algarve (especially Carvoeiro) but I wanted to check something out first.

My husband is a keen Metal Detectorist. And I just thought I would ask if it is permissible to metal detect on the beaches in Carvoeiro and surrounding beaches. I have been to Carvoeiro lots of times and love it and would love to combine his hobby with my love of the Algarve.

He would only metal detect on the beach early in the morning or in the evening (obviously not when there are people on the beach during the day).

Please can you let me know if he would be permitted to metal detect on the beaches in your country ???

This question was raised on another forum, You will need a license and of course it is not allowed on any sights of historical interest and importance.
Cannot remember where they said you had to go to get your permit.

Hi, my husband does have a licence - and it would only be on the beach. We went to Menorca this year and he had no problems there. But I really want to go to Carvoeiro and would love it if he can continue his hobby whilst enjoying a lovely holiday.

We lived in Weston when they first became consumer items. I got one and went on the beach under the pier. People were throwing coins down from the pier to see if found them. I kept my head down and tried to make out I didn't realise where they were coming from. I think I made a couple of quid.

Do you mind if I ask about the licence. My husband has a Permit for Metal Detecting on Crown Estate Foreshore and also an NCMD card - is this the licence you need ????

I understand that you need a permit in Portugal, there must be clubs in Portugal for metal detectors , maybe worth googling the subject.
