Weather and bars etc open mid February

Post by mikeyorks »

Just a quick question - for the first time we are coming to Carvoeiro mid Feb (normally are their in the summer/early Autumn) and just wondered what the weather is normally like plus are the bars and restaurants open?

I think February is probably the wettest month in the year.....wiser heads may correct me.

There are always some restuarants and bars open....but maybe your favourites may be closed for holiday.

I compare Carvoeiro in Feb, to England in April.

You will need a villa or apartment with heating.

February, can be lovely, warm in the day but by 4pm you would need to wrap up.
It can rain but in average years it is November that has most rain, do not expect wall to wall sunshine but always carry a jacket and carry an umbrella when you see an old local person with one. :o
Heating in your accomodation is essential, although if it is sunny it is likely to be warmer outside than in, so hopefully a late breakfast and lunch on a sheltered terrace :D

The last couple of winters here have been very wet & cold & seemed to go on forever. I think February is the quietest time of the year, with bar & restaurant owners often taking their break then or doing maintenance work on their properties. Having said that there's always a number of restaurant/bars open to choose from & I like the town when it's peacful & quiet.

I worn shorts in February. It can get nice and warm during the day but cools down at night.

The year after we moved out to Carveiro the February was lovely & we were definitely in shorts & you'll find people sunbathing on the more sheltered beaches all through the winter on the good days. So you should pack a couple of pairs, it doesn't hurt to be optimistic sometimes :D .
Surely we can't have 3 bad winters in a row - can we?

I was out in December last year. weather was nice, shirts and jeans, no jackets or jumpers. evenings were on the cool side and there was very few restaurants open - definitely open jota lita, maximes, casa algarvia as I ate in all 3 - definitely closed Happys. can't recall which bars were open but roundup was closed.

out in January and weather definitely cooler, I would describe the days as 'fresh' and evenings as cold. Happys was now open :D , roundup still closed but the cosy bar on the in street definitely open, and cosy it was too.

out in early March and the weather was disappointing. very little sun, some rain, quite breezy and coolish at night. think most restaurants and bars were open. a friend who was out a fortnight before us had 26% of heat and full sunshine most days, no rain. he left as we arrived and he had a wonderful time with really warm sunny days. He was probably lucky, we were probably unlucky, so I hope you are lucky and the sun shines for you, but it's probably down to that - luck.

We were out for out for 13 days in February this year...my diary records 7 good days, 4 Okish days and 2 poor ones.....had breakfast outside at about 0900 on the good days....some days were certainly shorts/tee shirts, but find somewhere a bit sheltered for eating outside, and have a brolly near to hand. You should see some nice spring flowers! Jailhouse will be shut, the town quite quiet in the evening, but a reasonable choice of eateries.
