Flamingos

I know that there is a fairly resident flock of flamingos, at the brackish lagoon at Salgado, on the coast near, Pera, but today saw a flock of about 50 of these lovely birds on the Arade mud flats between the A125 bridge, and the A22 bridge.

Is this an unusual sighting........or have I just never been lucky enough to spot them before today??

We have seem them there before but for the last few times they had been missing....

We have seen them on and off since early October some times everyday, The lake at Salgados was drained as it had become contaminaited with an algae and has only recently refilled. Last week we saw a solitary flamingo at Salgados.
We have also seen them sometimes on the lakes on the Morgado estate.

I've seen them there in the Arade in January of previous years - beautiful

Keep going past Alvor until you reach Mexilhoeira Grande and turn left, just after the turn to the station, by an old garden centre. Follow the dirt track over the train line until you reach the opposite side of the estuary from Alvor. Pleanty of flamingos last week and also a lone pelican, plus many other birds. Later in the year a haven for bee eaters.
