Satelite tv

Post by Paul Romaines »

I know this topic has been raised before and I have in the past contributed to it.
My property on the Alto golf course was broken into last week. It followed having new work surfaces fitted and the video and digibox was stolen.
The digibox was originally brought from the UK. If I was to replace it with a box purchased in Portugal with a basic sky package or even BBC free to air card-how much are we talking for the digibox and package? Is it possible?
I am between Alvor and Portimao, who locally might be recommended to do it?

We had the whole system installed in our apartment in Carvoeiro in November. It cost about £550.00 and was installed by RJ Tecnica in Carvoeiro who were very helpful and I would definitely recommend. Obviously if you already have the dish etc I assume it would be cheaper, RJ Tecnica's number is 282 356520, mobile 91 474 7051 ask for Cristina she speaks good english.

Good luck!

We had panasonic digi with new dish installed for about £350. We also organised a BBC FTV card with it. Be wary though, the thieves will know you will replace and may pop back in a month or so's time. Tel Aarron in Carvoeiro 282 357843.

Satellite TV

Thank you for those that replied to my question about the Satellite TV. The thought that the person who stole the digibox will return is slightly worrying. Has this been experienced in the past. Is crime on the increase in the Algarve like most other places?
I am still undecided as to whether I should bring out a digibox from the UK or buy one in Portugal. I have been told here that Sky are in the process of redistributing new cards and that I should'nt do anything until after April. Don't know if anyone has heard anything?

In all honesty, safety is an issue which has to be considered more nowadays when you own property in the Algarve. Like anywhere else, the more people there are around, the more criminals are amongst them.

If your house was broken into, there was most likely an easy point of entry. If that is the case I would suggest reviewing possibilities to increase security.
Does Alto Clube not have surveillance patrols? Does the neighbourhood have a houseowners association you can turn to?

For further advice on living in Portugal, I suggest you contact the Association of Foreign Property Owners Portugal http://www.afpop.com/.

Good luck.
