Re: Tolls on the A22
It seems strange that the tolls have been in operation for 3 months or so and still nobody here knows what they can expect to be charged?

Re: Tolls on the A22
I agree but I would also consider that it's their duty (to themselves and to their customers) to minimise costs and ensure avoidance of fines where possible (and it is possible to achieve both by fitting Via Verde or similar devices and paying the tolls in the first instance) before adding a modest handling charge and recovering their costs from the appropriate renter.joeysoap wrote:... I would expect the hire companies to at least cover their costs in this sorry saga.
It seems to me that the advice you received is part of the mooted attempts of the car rental industry to sabotage the electronic toll system.
I'm afraid I'm less public spirited than you and intend to make arrangements to ensure any toll charges that I might incur are paid by or for me, without relying on my hire car company.
We all know what we should be charged (actual toll rates plus a modest admin charge) but we don't know how to achieve that without the support of the car rental companies. Of course, it's much longer than 3 months in the north of Portugal.laserblazer wrote:It seems strange that the tolls have been in operation for 3 months or so and still nobody here knows what they can expect to be charged?
Re: Tolls on the A22
We rented a car from the airport last Saturday to drive to our villa in Carvoeiro. We used the A22 and came off at the Lagoa exit. On Tuesday we went to the newsagents in Intermache and paid our 4.60 euros toll charge. No problem. We are here on a long stay and will again use the A22 back to the airport. The rental company has an imprint of my credit card and can charge the toll fee to that, but in December they didn't bother to collect it, I guess since we are pretty good customers. The alternative would to leave them a 5 euro note with the car keys.

I wouldn't pay to much attention to the Algarve Resident.
It isnt much better than a low budget local weekly rag.
I suspect they have very little journalistic input, and rely basically on re-printing handout and wires stories.
There is certainly very little journalistic style there.
Like most local weeklies, it probably depends on its local small adds.
To me its a way of paying 1.50 for the weekly TV programme guide.

Bruce.....you can save the 1.5€ for the (Portugal News) TV Guide by collecting it free from outside Intermarche or their office in Lagoa!
Re: Tolls on the A22
Arrived home on Tuesday 31St January.
Visited Carvoeiro post office Monday 30th January to pay tolls we thought we were due to pay. Faro to Alcantarilha on Tuesday 24 th January. Firstly we were asked why do we want to pay them. Now it appears we may have been charged for the previous renter. We were charged 5.65 euros + 0.62 = 6.27 euros.
I had calculated 2.95 euro from Faro to Alcantarilha but thought I may have missed a leg. Can someone confirm the correct amount.
As regular visitors and actually homeowners I would like to know.
We returned to the airport on the EN125 which was ok, an extra 15 minutes but at least I know I do not owe any tolls,

Re: Tolls on the A22
€2.95 + 31c so you probably did 'inherit' €2.70 but I don't understand the extra 31c. I though this was an admin charge to cover the cost of collecting the fee (ie the post office/intermarche etc fee)and was payable once you paid the tolls, but now looks like a daily admin charge. Re the €2.70 'inheritance, probably from previous renters run back to the airport - and they couldn't pay it anyway.
Re: Tolls on the A22
Someone posted it was €4.60 from the airport to junction 6 lagoa and you got off one before. Seems quite a bit more off 1 junction.joeysoap wrote:€2.95 + 31c so you probably did 'inherit' €2.70 but I don't understand the extra 31c. Re: Tolls on the A22
It is 4.05 euros from Faro airport to junction 6 + 0.31 admin fee.whether the latter is a per toll, per day or per payment charge is unclear but i think the latter
Re: Tolls on the A22
I thought that too, but Audrey was charged 62c so does not appear to be by transaction.andara wrote:It is 4.05 euros from Faro airport to junction 6 + 0.31 admin fee.whether the latter is a per toll, per day or per payment charge is unclear but i think the latter
.We were charged 5.65 euros + 0.62 = 6.27 euros
I make it 2.95 to Ancantarilha from the Airport

Pot calling kettle??????I have never wanted to damage a business out of spite.
I suggest that intentionally, or otherwise, you are straying into this territory.

Maybe the tone was bit harsh but the comment is accurate.
Save your self E1.50 and look at the headline stories on the internet but do not take them too seriously.
