Lovely fortnight, new places tried

Post by piggywidden93 »

Just got back from a glorious fortnight in Carvoeiro. We have been coming to the same Villa for the last 15 years 8) Each year we try to vist some new places as recommended by fellow forumites. So thank you very much, enjoyed lunch a number of times at Rascals, Dinner at Ma-ja's - heavenly caramelised chorizo!!! dinner at O' Farol - lovely chicken for a very fussy 11 year old. Compiling list for next year as I type (first day back at work, so easing myself back in gently) Thanks you people of Carveiro you are a lovely bunch - see you next year :D

Is anyone actually posting on eatalgarve?
Just had a peak, and the 'latest' reviews for some restaurants are 3 years old!

It was started as a genuine review site, but the owner, who owns this site as well, very generously started offering a cash prize for the must read reviews, so some people just started publishing silly reviews just to get points.
At that point, serious reviewers stopped posting.

It was a good idea, and a worthwhile site.

Totally enjoyed recent trip.

Thought the town was much busier than previous years. Crowds everywhere. Centianes beach jammers on both days we visited.
Caught the fireworks display at the square short but good. The guy in the square on Wednesdays and Sundays (Ricardo Sousa ) very entertaining.

Restaurants (we enjoyed them all) California, Masqueira, O Salmao, Happys, Villa Medica and Casa de Bife. O Salmao probably best overall. Also had lunch in O Barrill in Ferragudo, cover, starters, mains, desert, coffee and wine all for €10 in a lovely setting. Highly recommended. We went to a typical Portuguse restaurant in Silves and I think there was about 6 fish on my plate when it came. Wasn't able for them all, but gave it a lash anyway.
Smashing young jazz band in Cafe Ingles last Sunday. Lazing a sunny Sunday afternoon, in the shadow of the Cathedral, in good company. Lovely.

Great to see Dave again in Jokers. In great form. Back is still giving him trouble and he has to have another operation ( in Germany again I think he said) Not reopening Jailhouse
Two guys in Roundup on our first Thursday were very good . surprisingly there was nobody in the bar that night bar us and about 6 others. Every other time we passed it was Karaoke night and the place was hopping! We also enjoyed the guy up in Monte Carvoeiro on Mondays from Cocktail Garden. Bar Accordia was very pleasant and both mrs soap and pointersister said the guy singing there on Saturdays was easy on the eye (whatever that means  )

We found the weather was hotter this visit than on previous visits around this time. Harder to go for a walk but made a few trips over the cliffs as far as Centianes. Like the new doors on the church. Didn't like the mozzies. Never bitten in around 30 visits but this time the little buggers scored a few direct hits.

Noticed the tolls were reduced on the motorway. Aiport to Alcantarilha now €2.55 (from €2.95) maybe they are learning

I think the Toll price has always been the same. The difference you have noticed was the commission payable to the Post Office/CTT/pay shops, and that has been reduced.

I was reading the prices off the big blue display signs that you see just before the 'beep' on the electronic device. Definitely different from April. (now displaying 40+1.30+85- previous display was 50 +1.50 +95)

Would have thought that one of the local newspapers would have mentioned it though.
