Credit Card Fraud

Post by Sharen Crane »

Recently, on our Turkey forum and also on Facebook, there are a number of people reporting credit card fraud, all of them linked with two companies (owned by the same company), A2B and Resorthoppa. In most instances they have been used for mobile phone top-ups in Turkey and UK (O2 and EE). There is no suggestion that the two companies are involved directly but they certainly are a link between the fraud and the credit cards used to pay for their services.

If you have used any of the two shuttle services recently please check your credit card statements for any unknown activity and report it immediately to your credit card supplier. Be aware though they are crafty fraudsters and do not always use the cards immediately, some have noticed activity as much as two months after they used their cards to book transfers! The company responsible is investigating the issue at the moment.

Friends came out to CVO recently used Resorthoppa. When this was flagged up I warned them, but nothing suspicious at that stage. Credit card company contacted them at weekend as card details had been used for some phone companies and 2 motels in USA, same card as used for Resorthoppa. No money lost luckily.

Thanks for this...my wife recently got a call from our banks fraud dept checking if some purchases(including flights, hotel) were from her. She said they weren't and the bank didn't allow these transactions and replaced her card immediately so no harm done. She doesn't use the debit card online very often but in April she went to Carvoeiro with a friend and used Resorthoppa - just checked back and she had used this debit card to pay online so it seems like this is where her card got cloned. The fraudulent attempt was over 4 months from the time she booked the transfer so worth being vigilant

I have also recently had a card fraud and did not link this to anything. However. I had booked transfers for my daughter with this card using Resorthoppa. Could just be a coincidence

"If " there is an issue within that company be it an individual or scamming technology then if anyone does have a concern either pay in cash or use a company where you pay cash on arrival and departure to the driver.
Yellowfish is a company that we have heard very good reports of and of course there are many others.

We recently had a fraud card attempt but our bank refused it and cancelled the card. Like others we had booked a transfer with resorthoppa, normally hire a car on our visits but as this was just a short stay booked a transfer. However our family always use transfers so thanks for highlighting this.

Hmmm.. maybe me too. Barclays phoned up about four weeks ago and said there had been suspicious activity on the debit card. They cancelled the card. And yes the only time it's been used online recently is to book ResortHoppa back in early June. Check your statements carefully.

Seems strange, as the last time I used my Portuguese credit card was for the same company, about two months ago. Went to purchase an item on it via the Internet, in Australia, via Paypal, last week, which was accepted. Got a call from the Bank two hours later to say that there were strange transactions taking place on my card. They managed to stop two, but a lot of money was taken from it. Card was immediately cancelled, trip to Bank to report, now it is showing on my statement and will not be removed for at least three months. Looks like someone purchase a lot of PC equipment from Germany.
For once I agree with EMM, always try and pay cash.

According to contacts in Turkey, they are looking into it and have asked for anyone who has had their card fraudulently used to contact them.

Perhaps it would be a good idea for the supervisor of this forum to delete the Resorthopper advert for the time being ?

I have also been affected by this. We went to Portugal in May and I booked Resort Hoppa just before we left. All well and good - no problems , we alwaays use the. In August there appeared an item we did not recogniise on my card statement. It was for £179.99 payment ofor an 02 mobile phone made from an English number (made at the beginning of August.) I tried the English number it was a temporary number given out by BT. I contacted O2 they confirmed it was for the payment of a mobile phone but would not give me the name or number of the mobile phone. Luckily the bank have refunded me. I gave them all the above details but knew nothing of this fraud so it may be connected. I will contact the bank fraud dept. to tell them today. Obviously someone from Resort Hoppa has something to do with it. I will not use them again until this has been resolved. We are going next week and I booked Resort Hoppa on 21st August (not sure what card I used then as I thin the original had been cancelled so I will have to watch the bills very carefully)

It's so obviously that someone at Resort Hoppa is the culprit, I'm surprised the fraud investigation people haven't taken action before now, c'mon get your finger out! someone's having a ball at our expense. :x
