You don't have to believe it - what they call a cloudy day is like a hot sunny day sky in UK! I remember about 3 yrs ago we were promised a thunderstorm on day in April. We had heavy dark clouds, terrific thunder and huge flashes of lightning for about 2 hrs - not a drop of rain!!

I wouldn't worry about it piggywidden93. We have on many occasion seen this kind of forecast and only seen a small bit of cloud in the early morning and then lovely clear weather all day long. Enjoy your holiday!

Thank you for your comments - can't wait - we really need this holiday and Carvoeiro is like coming home every year (if only !!!!)
Re: Please tell me I don't have to believe this
I think you'll find the clouds shown on your weather map are actual size!

Unfortunately this is true. Can't wait for the rains to come. This has been the hottest year I have known in nine years living here.Tim62 wrote:I think you'll find the clouds shown on your weather map are actual size!![]()
I might take my shirt off and walk downtown when it does and join in with the visitors.

May be it will break following the intense heat and settle in the high 80's in time for us coming out next week. I would take anything right now after the garbage summer we've had in the NW.

I have often gone for a walk when it rains in CVO, I find the rain a heck of a lot warmer than back home!! And when it stops area drys up fairly quickly. Seems July wettest since records began in some parts of Scotland, one town experienced an increase of 225% on monthly average and August looking like another washout!! Flight over booked for September, counting down the days!!

Piggywidden93 you probs better not risking it might be better off just staying home , wouldn't want your holiday ruined by a solitary cloud lol

Re: Please tell me I don't have to believe this
This reminds me of when my sister and family first went to live in Australia 50 years ago. She wrote home to my father saying that it had rained on her birthday (in January) and she had gone out in the garden and danced around cheering, as it was the first rain they had seen for over 6 months. My father and I reckoned that she had gone mad. After all, who in England at that time would welcome rain on their birthday.DVBRO wrote:Unfortunately this is true. Can't wait for the rains to come. Re: Please tell me I don't have to believe this
Well here we are back home again, what weird weather - I really didn't want to believe that it was true but it was. We arrived on the 8th to very thick cloud and a bit of rain !!! but extremely warm. Never in all the years we have been visiting have we even hardly seen a cloud in the sky. The weather didn't really settle until the Thursday and then was brilliant until the day before we came home (last friday) - there was the most bizarre fog that settled around teatime - we went to Villa Medici for our last evening and it was just swirling around evewhere. When we set off for airport the weather was gorgeous (8 am Sat morn) but when we hit Faro the thick fog was back. Very strange but we have had a brilliant time and have got great tans (even better than normal), which I can only put down to being able to relax under cloudy skies without getting way too hot for a few days before the sun really got out - great time , carvoeiro is still our favourite place
Re: Please tell me I don't have to believe this
We've experienced the fog/mist rolling in from the sea on a number of visits since coming to Carvoeiro (13 years since 2002).
Last September it happened on 3 days of our 10 day stay. Usually by late morning it disappeared but one morning it rolled in and up in Monte CVO where we stay it didnt clear until 2 o'clock in the afternoon.
Experienced a number of late night walks 'home' to Monte C with mist rolling in off the sea over the years.

Re: Please tell me I don't have to believe this
We were out in Carvoeiro 4th - 18th August (our 17th year!!) and I was soooo disappointed when we got cloudy days and even rain spots
I have bad dreams about going on holiday and the sun not shining!!!!
However - as you say - the temps were high and eventually the cloudy went away!!
We had a fantastic holiday and got a lovely tan - def back next year!!!
