Its always nice to see a name whether guest or otherwise(but have to say I sometimes like the 'mystery' of a guess who

..it often adds something?)...but I still dont like the idea of making folk register before they can have a say..there should be freedom of choice....
Im afraid I do see it as some form of 'censorship' ...which Im not in favour of...only for protection of the young!
Im just a bit more concerned about the 'age limit' when joining here...think maybe 13 just a bit too young.
Any thoughts on this?

I too haven’t voted yet, these polls encourage you to vote before the campaign. It looks like the hunt has lost the hunting poll but if we had all voted after knowing the facts the fox would loose…

Anyway I remember this being discussed last year when I’m sure I voted with the majority in favour of not having to register – as kteee mentioned – but I cant really remember my reasons. I know we should not discourage people from posting and even a negative, mildly aggressive post is often better than no post at all (and we employ mods to look after that side of things!). Should the number of post decline due to new rules the whole thing could loose momentum; regular posters and the occasional visitors could loose interest and we hit the downward spiral

Thought most of us came on this site to chill out and get away from petty bureaucracy - isn't it bad enough now having to press 1, press 2, hang on 30 minutes, get cut off- because this is what we will start if we go down this road. And has anyone encountered all the different types of chip & pin machines lately?

I was asked by a gorgeous young man the other day what the problem was, as I stood there gazing into his dark brown eyes - I said seductively back it says pleeease wait

Now that was lucky a very slow machine - no problem there if I can test my ageing eyesight out at same time!

But some are stuck to surfaces and others aren't so why do we-get filthy looks if we drop them on floor

Enough registered users can't get the hang of logging on now so how can us mean and nasty guests manage it

The so called morons will go away and no doubt be be replaced with more morons! It's reading between the lines that's important. It gets on my nerves quite often now but the freedom of speech is important and I'm sure others can work out who the "tossers" are by reading the posts and wait for them to depart. Voted against registererd users.

Will vote against registered users only as I did last time - I don't think it is sensible or practical for a first time visitor to the Algarve to have to register to ask whether Carvoeiro is too hilly for someone with walking difficulties for example.

And as for it stopping the inane and the nasty, most of us have managed to be both in our time as registered users

. And without someone policing the IP addresses it would not stop people registering under a few different names and logging in as whatever persona they choose to be. (I accept that they mainly do this for fun rather than nastiness but look how many regulars use a variety of different names as it is !!)

Finally many people visit this forum before a holiday to CVO to find their feet, read the banter, and ask simple questions, it is often not until they come home having fallen in love with the place that they feel able to be included in our "club".

p.s. I have never once posted without logging on since the forum replaced the message board. I have always been happy to own my posts and do not ever use alias even for fun but am still anti registered users only.

As we have several sections in the Forum perhaps we could add a ''Guest'' section whereby first time users and people wanting to make inquiries could post their questions/requests, this could be open to all. therefore anybody can answer/give advice. We could then make the rest of the Forum Registered users only, with over 700 hundred people registered and growing, I'm sure that's enough to keep the craic going. I know this does not answer the problem of users having multiple ID's but at least it would be a start.

I totally support a 'member only' policy for submitting posts. By all means let guests take a look at what's going on and see what's being said but, if they want to air an opinion then they should log in as a member to do so.

Regarding personal attacks etc. On the Hisaronu forum on which I am a 'top poster' the policy there is strict regarding such posts. Eddie, the 'owner' and Chief Moderator simply deletes the offending posts - and warns persistent offenders that they will be removed from the forum if they keep it up.

I sometimes question Eddie over his use of his 'red pencil' and he always give a reason for its use - I don't always agree with him but I accept it as part of being allowed to use the forum and discuss many diverse topics. It is a member-only forum and currently has just signed up its 1866th member!

More use of the censor's 'red pencil' would be very welcome on this forum . . . as would the removal of so-called guest posts.

Signing in or simply looking at the top right-hand corner to see if your username shows up can't be that difficult, can it? If it is your very own PC, you can set it to sign you in automatically each time you visit by simply selecting a checkbox.

Imagine you are sitting around a table with a few people talking about something and somebody with a bag over their head comes in and wants to join the conversation. Would you not think that they are being a bit unpolite?

Ah comon,..we cant be all that senisative(jaysus i cant even spell it) some unknown gobshite comes on and calls you a fat horlicks ..your not goin to take it to bed and cry yourself to sleep ..ye just ignore it ...yis id want to work behind a bar for a while the abuse..the insults.. the sexual inuendo..the attacks on your personal integrety..suppose i should have barred the wife ages but sure ye know how it is .Anyway are we really goin to let some git that we don,t even like decide weather we change the rules or not ...anyway while hes on here slaggin us we are probably saving some other poor creature from a far worse fate ...like a sheep or somthin,....or a poor misfortunate salmon wrapped in the sunday times ....is it just me or does that sound more mafia warning than culinary delight.

:roll - yet another registered guest who hasnt logged in - hardly inspiring us guests to register?

Some smartarse will be complaining about that if the poll does become law

Btw if being registered is failsafe etc.---- can anyone explain to me why MADDI doesn't log in very often these days? The registered club didnt seem to support her or did I miss something?
