Don't drop your guard !

Post by David Johnson »

During my recent trip to Carvoeiro (late Jan) we stopped off at "Shoe World" and was in the shop for no more than 15 / 20 mins. When we came back to our hire car the rear window was smashed, and some low life had away with my video camera that was hidden in the boot !

When on hoilday in a beautiful place like Carvoeiro it is easy to become complacent, and forget that theives are theives the world over. I have learned my lesson the hard way, and hope that it does not happen to you.
So if you go to the shopping complex, please be ware that theives are operating there.

We still love Carvoeiro / Algarve and will not allow this experience to change the way we feel about the place and the people.

Sorry to hear about your mishap, experience of car crime is not uncommon, both at home in England and in other countries whilst on holiday. :(

We too have had our car broken into, this happened a few years ago in a car park in Albufeira. After the event we felt that we might have been watched whilst we took some things out of the boot, as some bags would have been briefly on view to passers by. Although, in our case, the value of the items taken was negligable we were inconvenienced.

We find its better not leaving anything in the car whilst it is parked even if it is out of sight. Also try not to park near a van or high-sided vehicle as this can provide cover while the car is broken into. If we hire a hatchback I usually put the parcel shelf behind the back seat so it can be seen there is nothing in the boot to take. :)
