Crime
Statistically, I don´t think you could even call it a crime rate when you are referring to Carvoeiro.
there are two things you should watch out for:
1. Never leave anything in your car.
If you leave your car for any period of time in a parking lot or by the beach, make sure you take everything out. If you want to leave something in the boot, make sure you put it there before you reach the parking lot - otherwise you might be observed stuffing something in.
2. Never leave an area of the house open/exposed if you are not around - leaving a bedroom window open while sitting by the pool could lead to somebody climbing in and snatching anything of value. Most urbanizations have security patrols. Most criminals will choose to run if they are seen.
No offence to any victim of a crime in Carvoeiro, but anybody talking about crime rates is already blowing things out of proportion. It is petty theft and a few cases of breaking and entering. If you apply the same basic rules as you do in your home country you should be OK.

oh really...no crime rate...well ive been robbed 4 times since living in portugal...twice from car and twice in house.
if there is no crime rate why do the majority of houses have burglar bars?
the advice above is good, but dont be conned into thinking everything is wonderful. i know of houses in carvoeiro that are robbed twice a year on average.
p.s. i have never been robbed in uk for the record

I've been a regular visitor to Carvoeiro for a few years and have never felt at all threatened in this town even whilst walking on my own after dark. It is just common sense to protect valuables and lock up doors - would you leave doors unlocked at home?? I believe most crime is opportunist and is usually committed by teenagers like everywhere else?
It is just a sad fact of life now that all places do have some form of crime but I would certainly not describe Carvoeiro as a place as suffering from high crime - if anything I would say Carvoeiro is the opposite especially if you come from UK.
We are already counting the days down to Oct. when we stay yet again

You need to be careful of acquisitive crime in the same way as you would in the UK. It is worth remembering that Villas will be seen by criminals as a high value option and targetted as such. But is no different to the UK and in particular holiday areas in the UK. The advice for a car is exactly the same in every Dartmoor carpark for example.
There is very little to be concerned about in respect of crime to the person if that is what was particularly concerning you, as crime figures in that respect are negliable.
