Explain to me why you wish to travel to such a beautiful and diverse location as Portugal/The Algarve yet in your heart you prefer the shops at
Arndale/Bluewater/MetroCentre/MiltonKeynes/MeadowHall/TragoMills.
Enjoy the change in scenery/culinary delights/weather/relaxation/beer........more beer, sardines, frango piri piri etc etc etc !!!!! Treat yourselves, ask Shearings or Saga to organise a "shopping centre special".

Portugal is a lovely place and this is my third time I will be taking my holiday there. The only reason I ask about the shopping centre is because I have oftern seen other people talking about it, and sometimes a break from the relaxing in the sun makes a change. I will also be going to Lisbon for a 3 day break whilst there, is that forbidden as well.
I ahve never been to the shopping centres that you mention and do not want to go there. This will be something new to me.
I am still going to go there you will not change my mind.

Enjoy it at Guia. I love it and go everytime I visit Portugal!
Sometimes its nice to go shopping for a change and as the shopping centre is nothing like those mentioned by NORBRID (apart from the ubiquitous phone shops) its a very pleasant change. Some of it is outside too so you are not missing out on the lovely weather whilst you are there either.

Last time I went to Algarve Shopping, I had really very good lunch, much better than UK shopping centre stuff, realistically Portuguese. My wife said, I think, that on her last trip the restaurant had closed.
Another important shopping centre advantage is air conditioning. It was 44 degrees outside at the time, so we happily spent the whole day!

Our portuguese friends use the Algarve shopping centre in the evening during the winter. ( why shop in daytime when its warm outside ) and of course in the heat of the day in the summer.
I expect to find them loitering by the cold cabinets in continente, dried cod does whiff a bit when its 40 degrees outside though.

For pm - I think the restaurant your wife probably referred to as being closed is one doing "tipico" stuff from Serra da Estrela - this is just being "refurbed" and will reopen soon - thats the only change in the food area that I know of (ps we live only 4 miles away and do all our shopping there - so we should be pretty up to date)
