In Mato Serrao, close to Vila Nova Resort.
Fairly expensive I guess compared with other places, but worth it in our view. eg. in Euros:

We've never visited L'Orange, mainly because previous posts on the forum have given the impression that it may be quite romantic,
not that we are against romance and intimate dining, but we do go out of our way not to spoil things for those without three noisy children.
Can you confirm this, as we would love to go - on the other hand if anybody is offering to babysit next time we are in CVO....

Tricky - many people take children to L'orange so unless they are totally destructive I do not think you will have a problem. (there is also a nice outside area in the summer if this would make you more relaxed)
Alternatively, we use a lovely Scottish lady who lives in Sesmarias for babysitting who is great with the children - send me a private message if you want her phone number/email address

Sandy - I think that is a bit unfair.
One of the joys of somewhere like Portugal is that it is so child friendly, and there are restaurants that we can visit with our children (unlike Surrey where I am not sure you are even meant to let your children be seen in public, let alone somewhere so grand as a restaurant!)
It is not always possible to leave the children at home, and unless they are allowed to experience restaurants when they are young then they are going to grow up into the kind of adult that sometimes ruin my evenings out.
I do, however, think that with young children it makes a great deal of sense to go early, since they become fairly fractious if they are tired and hungry after 9 o'clock, and I do agree that children running around after 11pm is probably not a good thing for anyone.
If you have had an evening out ruined remeber that it is the adults, not the children, at fault.
I would also say that it is a very frequent delight to watch a family with well mannered children enjoying a meal and conversation together, and whilst mine are not old enough yet I aspire to this idea of an enjoyable dinner far more than having to leave them behind.

I have had countless evenings out ruined by noisy, badly-behaved adults.
and I have never had an evening out (dining) ruined by children.

There are any number of establishments the world over that do not welcome children and I would suggest that if in any doubt PLEASE use those establishments and if you could possible take the loud, boorish, man regaling his table and the whole restaurant with a stroke by stroke replay of his afternoon's round with you I would very much appreciate it.

you can just tell as you walk past a restaurant that children will be as welcome as a flea on a dog, and I must admit to avoiding those places.

Oh dear, I was disappointed to read Gordon's comment but I do sympathise if an evening is spoilt by misbehaving children or adults 
One of THE most enjoyable aspects of our holiday is to sit down in a restaurant with the kids and enjoy a 'relaxing' meal together. They don't misbehave but enjoy our conversations and even when they are laughing they are not as noisy as a lot of adults getting drunk and swearing!
I brought my children up from a very young age not to run round cafes, restaurants, pubs etc. because of the dangers of accidents from scalding etc. and because I know it's annoying, not just for me but for people who don't have children.
Unfortunately some parents think these places are play rooms for their kids and again it's really the parents at fault for letting the children run round in eating places and then wonder why there are lots of tears when their kids crash into things and have an accident

OK, so here is the solution, if you have noisy screaming children, give them a pint of lager and watch them simmer down to a blissfull slumber - better even, take that pint of lager from the noisy, pissed adult at the other table and give him/her the childs dummy.
