What is a sticky??

Maybe I am being a bit dense but please could you explain what the purpose of a 'sticky' is in the forum???

Certainly, making something a "sticky" ensures it always stays at the top of a forum heading - many forums use this facility to show their rules for example. Obviously regular postings also make something stay at the top but that would not necessarily happen with rules or personnel info say.

Hope that is clearer, on some forums the sticky looks like a drawing pin.
