New Year's Eve
Thanks Michael - well I think!!!!I take back all I've said about you, you are a nice person!
I have always professed that it is much better to say you do or do not like the behaviour, rather than say you do or do not like the person, because let's face it on a forum like this none of us really know the person (except in a few cases where people have met up). Even with membership and a profile, most of us could still be almost anyone. And there are several people on here with more than published persona.

Thought it was the season of goodwill, peace on earth
And everyone's arguing about where to spend New Year
It doesn't matter where you spend New Year - if you are with your family and loved ones when many haven't that pleasure then what is there to worry about?
Unless you have the mother/father-in-law from hell and have to spend Christmas cooped up in a non alcoholic environment
Maybe some Christmas 'disaster' stories could brighten the forum - such as the time my newly married brother thought he would surprise his wife and bought a free range turkey, cost a fortune and too big to get in the oven
At least she got a new kitchen out of it
Or everybody wanting seconds of roast beef but when we went into the kitchen to get it - all gone but the dog was sat there looking very guilty.
Mother who can get us all pissed just eating her trifle/xmas pud. And the year the oven broke down on Xmas day itself.................

When I was growing up my mother used to get up at 5 am to put the turkey on, anyway I was 27 before I ever had to host christmas having always gone home to my parents in the years prior to that - so up I got at the crack of dawn to put the turkey on and lo and behold it was ready for breakfast!!!!!!!
So what was that all about??

In days of yore there was a television Chef called Phillip Harbin who came up with the idea of cooking the turkey for about 10 hours, or even longer, at a very low heat, and this method was widely adopted by the population as it was supposed to be foolproof.
Unfortunately it tended to dry the bird out so that it had a texture like chaff

Talking turkey
I saw this cook on some (would it be late of 50s/60?)recent programme on old BBC cooks Rod---man with receding hair and what looked like a great long striped apron?
Actually --its great fun to see "how things used to be done"---how --as someone said here, greens were "stewed" for ages so gave off awful"pong"!
If I cook dinner Christmas I always use butter for the bird---and prefer a Capon to turkey--wonderfully moist bird and so much more taste than turkey
I suppose the most entertaining TV cook of all was the famous Fanny Craddock--all her meals seem to be very grand --a bit over-dressed like her --and wasnt she a tartar--no wonder her "Johnny" was always attacking the wine bottle
If you like a "fruity" stuffing--mix your sage& onion with orange juice (you can use orange squash undiluted-just as good) lovely
or with parsley& thyme use lemon.

Cant remember how it went though
I know this topic was about where to spend New Years Eve and has now gone onto Christmas Fare--is anyone on here having anything completely different to the usual Turkey dinner?
We're booked into Maximes CVO--but havent received the menu--has anyone been there for Xmas and know what it might be? I know Peter Belifante has --do you know Peter?

hahaha and it gets funnier everytime I open a forum.....
I spoke to a local girl in CVO, because I changed my ticket so I will be spending New Year in CVO. She told me about the Bote, there will be a big party. Zeca's bar will be open and officina will be very nice. You can go to Arjen's bar, there will be a dresscode.
Well I think there is enough to do for you. And if you just walk around you will find something nice.
Have fun.
