hmmm biffa's 1st darling... is the dog you are talking about the same one who used to sleep in smilers a lot too? Lafayette, is it? I was never allowed to go in the Cafe Rocha - mother didn't approve!!!

Ellie you should interview her cos she knows EVERYTHING about EVERYONE. But it might need careful editiing or you could be done for libel.

Blonde?!

So many peolple tried to buy the house on the hill, and it has been refused by the camara because of the dangers involved, specially after the '' big waves '' of the winter 0f 1990, the house seemed to bellong to ''sopas'' distant family, that's the reason he lived there untill he died, and some people say that it was he's hineritance, ''sopas'' lived a very simply live without a care for the world that's the reason he never left a will, the house now it's a listed building, because of the history involved aparentelly the fist owners of the house used to sell charcoal coal ''CARVAO'' and tha'ts where they goot the name for the village ''PRAIA DO CARVOEIRO'' wich means ''beach of the charcoal coal seller''
i'm very sorry Joe but i think that you have a very slim change of owning that property, i wish you all the luck anyway.

of course you can interview me Elle, all i know is what everyone in Carvoeiro that remembers ''SOPAS'' knows, it's good that after all this years ''SOPAS'' is still remembered, even tough he wasn't very popular because of his higiene and rudenes, some people even say that he's gost is the reason for the house not to be sold.
was the house cursed by ''SOPAS''?
we never know, one thing i know, like Joe it has been many people interested on the property, and it still stands on the top of the hill like ''SOPAS'' left it after 20 years.... EMPTY!!

Thats very kind of you Vic--I am genuinely interested in such characters--they are the 'history' of a place and people like yourself-and others here are essential in keeping that history going---
I love to talk to people like you and observe and then write--
You mentioned a 'ghost' --a haunted house maybe? Well when I stood in there--must have been half hour or so--there was a definite atmoshere(not scary)
I tried to imagine living in there--and looking out over that wilderness of a garden my fingers itched to work on it!
Maybe we could start a 'history of cvo' society (unless theres one already?)? Might be fun!
As you say--its nice that old Sopas is remembered--smelly or not--he was still flesh& blood-- a human being !

are we thinking about the same dog? I remember him sort of wintering in smilers but I don't remember him at the cafe rocha. A great big dog? Or maybe I was smaller then. Never been keen on dogs of course since Bifa's 1st darling abandoned me and I got run over by a labrador. The first of many similar cruelies soon to be revealed on these pages...

BTW Biffa and bifa's first. I was in Poole last week and I saw Sammy dog!! Honestly as I live and breathe it was him.

Visited the House on the Hill last week after reading all this. I was intruiged. It has the best views. Hope it gets restored by caring people and perhaps used as an Historical monument to Carvoeiro,,, of some sort. Would hate to see it become someone's summer home. The place has so much character (CVO) and if earlier comments are correct , got it's name from that house. I loved the friendliness and warmth of the people, the character of the area and think this should be preserved. Visited other places in Potugal that have become overrun with tourist and big fast food chains, retail chains and huge hotels, I loved it in CVO. Love hearing about these characters. Hope to return one day in hopes that it has not changed much. :P
