Fear of War

Post by Guest »

I've got to agree with the last post. There is coverage of the prospect of war everywhere we look and I'm sure there are plenty of BB's around where it can be discussed. I come to this site for topics relating to Carvoeiro.

Last message about :promoting Carvoeiro - youre a bit sad-Carvoeiro doesnt need promoting -great little place - I should know after 15 years- you wont find better place or nicer people.
Regards the potential war - you can choose to discuss it or not.
Plenty of other subjects.
Expect America will get its way -------- you only have to read the Cowboys comments ! God preserve us !

We don't have an opinion on this apart from our governments. We should not be discussing this on this site.

Thank you for your e-mail tricia, but down in Carvoeiro life is about your job, your familiy and your friends, I dont have the luxury of being able to go and knock on number 10 and give ´em a piece of my mind. I would probably look silly waving a big "GIVE PEACE A CHANCE!" sign infront of the webcam.

Nevertheless, I will be up in Lisbon next weekend, maybe I will get a chance to show my disgust there.

As for the remainder of this topic - We have this forum BECAUSE it can be split into topics. No longer do we have the problem of a single thread that was littered with comments relating to 20 different subjects.
If this is a topic that does not appeal to you, don´t read it or don´t reply to it.
Give those people who have been socializing on carvoeiro.com for a while a chance to exchange their views on more worldly subjects rather than just rant and rave about some poor sod who dropped your Bife á Algarvia in your lap last week.

thanks for your response Gambrinus - I certainly agree about use of forum - and as i say I enjoy it so much. The topics are getting varied now _ive posted a few others re: The lighthouse &Jane austen (with info for buying onlineetc which i hope fans in Algarve can enjoy)
I believe the "Fear on War" topic has run its course-i never thought there would be such response -my original message being to express my fear,as we are subjected 5days out of 7 to low-flying Tornado jets rehearsing.
I dont have the"luxury" of knocking on no.10 either-I live over 200miles away- except when i have to do the 5 hour drive into London for eye check or as at weekend for the family in antiwar march.
Good luck with your trip to Lisbon -but i expect you feel same as me,that it probably wont change Bush(or Blairs)mind one iota.
I dream of Carvoeiro - and cant wait to be back i n late august(for long stay through to Feb 0 3, hopefully!
Lets just hope & pray all this is behind us &settled before then and we have peace. God bless,Tricia

in flanders fields the poppies blow between the crosses, row on row, that mark our place; and in the sky the larks, still bravely singing, fly scarce heard amid the guns below. ....goodnight to this topic, and it's been a real pleasure meeting you. goodnight and god bless us...every one.

Cowboy, you brought tears to my eyes  When I read the newspapers or see the news I am so thankful that my boys are still far too young to go to war. Let us hope and pray that this can be sorted without bloodshed and tears.

I wonder how many other sites Tricia has been on? I joined this site to learn more about The Algarve and Carvoeiro in particular. It appears that Trica - a guest - is using it for political reasons.

I liked Cowboys quote from John McRea; but my favourite 'war poet' has to be Sassoon.

I have an opinion on the possible war - but this is not the place to air it. There are plenty of other sites that one can use to discuss this topic.

Finally, in the words of sassoon: You are to young to fall asleep for ever . . .

Funny looking back at last years posts, to see how worried eveyone ( except Mr Bush) was about the oncomming war, well it came and went made news headlines for a few months and now it's back to normal. How many people were more worried about missing last Wednesdays footie match than war this year, ohh it's a strange place this place we call home!! Have a happy year everyone

Pinkie, I hope you are right, but I think "Normal" is just a lull in the action.
