We use economy car hire (www.economycarhire.com) when we hire a car in the Algarve. It is fully inclusive, no insurance excess, and a free additional driver. We have always been happy with their service and find them to be the cheapest.

Hi we use www.economycarrentals.com again they are agents and we have usually ended up with zipauto, airauto, and they have met us in the arrivals part of airport and we return it to the car park just in front of the airport, it includes a second driver and touchwood we have never had any problems. However, I need to hire one for my hubby who is staying out there for 6 weeks after easter, so I will need to compare prices carefully. Unless anyone has any suggestions for long term car hire?only for one person, so nothing fancy, although he does insist on air con, so fussy! Thanksx

Hi Avidblue and welcome. Go to the homepage of this site and click on Algarvedriver. Forum members get a discount and the cars are a short walk from the terminal in Carpark 4. You return them there as well and just leave the keys.

we have used them plenty of times but didn't know you get a extra discount if you are a forum member, how do you go about it - just tell them I suppose or do they need verification.

If you book from the link on the cvo.com site it is supposed to be discounted pricing. However, this may be similar to other such things where nobody pays the full price.

I have used both Algarvedriver & Economy Car Hire frequently. They both offer excellent service at competitive rates. In my experience Economy tend to offer newer cars with very little mileage on the clock which is always reassuring.

Holiday autos also use cars from Sixt and Auto Jardim, both of which are to the right of the arrivals area for collecting cars. Sixt returns are to the same area but Auto Jardim drop off is off airport. Both hire companies are good (I would use them independently if they could match the price and have sometimes booked with Sixt for reliability and for years used AJ linked to villa rental) but through Holiday Autos you never know which company will provide the car until you've booked.

We have used Algarvedriver for the last 5 or 6 years and never had a problem , they use YOR .Same couple of reps at airport ,cars in the same place and never a quibble over extra charges.
Check around ,find the same deal cheaper ,Email steen and he will match the deal without any hassle. Trust me i,ve done this a heap of times and never had a problem.
The discount your talking about may be the free week (in low season)with every ten you book(hi or low),and this also is not a con.
By the way i,m booking a car for four weeks this year and i,m wondering does any body have a cheaper way of covering the insurance excess......42 euro a week,168euro for the month.

Pays for itself after approx 12 days car hire per year.

The only real downside is that should you have an accident in PT, you will have to pay out the excess locally, but then claim it back later.
