The number for the GNR is 282 356460, and it is manned 24 hours, 7 days a week - whenever we have had reason to call them out they have arrived promptly.

If it is one particular bar, you need to go to the GNR to make an official, written complaint - these are all sent to the Câmara in Lagoa and if they receive enough (not sure how many they need) they will take action by imposing fines or revoking the bar's licence.

If you dont get any joy at the CVO GNR, then go to Lagoa and voice your concerns there, believe me they WILL do something about it, however, if they dont know, they cant do anything - so do tell them. I'm not being funny here, but I certainly dont want Carvoeiro ending up Anytown in the UK.

Thank you for your help with phone numbers etc.although we returned home on Tuesday some friends are using our apartment and apparently the noise was horrendous on Tuesday night and they are seriously talking of coming back as their children awoke and where very frightened, so to us this is very serious even if some members seem to think it's a joke.Thank you once again for your help I have passed the information on to them but find it embarrassing to have to ask them to do this after going on for years what a fantastic place Carvoeiro is.

Is this rowdiness a recent thing?, i was out for almost five weeks in July and August and saw or heard nothing, and we were in town most nights sometimes late.

Im surprised that its around Hemingways. I use that bar and always felt okay in there?
But never used the Irish Times.

Only used the Carvoeiro Sol one night Jackie ( we'd left our keys in apartment) and it was quite noisey inside I found. Take your earplugs love..anyway wish you a lovely time, wish I was coming with you. Im really getting withdrawal symptoms as no hol there this year

We have been coming to Carvoeiro for many years and are always telling our friends how lovely and welcoming a place it is. We were over in June and felt it had got a bit noisier in the early hours than what we were used to. It would be a tragedy if Carvoeiro ended up being a rowdy drinking village. Maybe if the bars were to close a little earlier the people causing the trouble may go to areas like Albufeira for their late night life. Dont know if it would be a solution, but something must be done to keep Carvoeiro the village that we all have come to love.

At the risk of being accused of getting defensive and over protective of our beloved village I do wonder whether those experiencing rowdiness have just been unlucky.

In my opinion it doesn't really matter where you go there will be groups of inconsiderate people from time to time and if you are unlucky enough that your holiday coincides with one of those groups and they are staying close to you I can see how you could find every night noisy and rowdy.

In view of the few posts of this nature over recent mths I've been asking lots of visitors whether they are finding it more noisy and rowdy and I have not had 1 negative comment.

My own personal experience is also good, I admit I have had a few disturbed nights over the years but generally speaking no problems.

It's a real shame to hear the stories on this thread and I have a great deal of sympathy for those people. However, I do think it's important that any potential new visitors to Carvoeiro get a balanced picture of the village. With that in mind I would say that from personal experience and asking lots of visitors I still think that the vast majority of people find Carvoeiro to be a beautiful village which, though lively in peak season, is relatively peaceful and a great place to while away a week or 2.

I'm hoping that the job offer from the Portuguese Tourist Board is in the post!

Have to say, in all the years Ive been to Carvoeiro, that Ive never experienced lots of noise or rowdiness.
I only ever had one scary experience about 3 or so years ago, where a man followed me(turned out to be a Russian) but I got help from friends and got home safely.
Have to say I always feel very safe there and it suits me, restaurants/pastelarias/ lovely little beach/shops, all on my doorstep..luvely jubbly
