Flew back from Faro last night with easyjet to Gatwick and the plane was full (and was apparently so on the outbound flight). The staff were very positive with comments about good for their jobs etc - seems like their capitalising on Monarch's lack of flights.

Used Thompson Fly from Bournemouth to Faro a couple of years ago which was quite an interesting experience - it was one of three flights that day from the airport which apparently made it a busy day. We walked from the 'terminal' to the plane.

I have just done a cost comparison on flights out to Faro in August and it's quite interesting to compare what is on offer with low cost airlines, once you have added on speedy boarding , bags, extra baggage allowance of 3 kgs Easyjet came out the most expensive. As they don't fly out of Birmingham I had to do the comparison from East Midlands.Monarch was the cheapest at £122.44 , next BMI Baby at £136.88 and then Easyjet at £174.03.So even with all the rigorous advertising for £10 seats etc., it goes to show that you have to shop around as there's still many bargains to be had. If I had a choice out of these 3 airlines I'd choose Monarch everytime and that's not just for price.

even had enough points for a few free flights for the 5 of us,
Hi Jo, how do you go about using your vantage points when you usually book online or do you have to book by phone? Thanks x

Hi

We have to phone up and speak to one of the nice ladies, the only problem is they only have 6 free seats on every flight, we were lucky in Feb as I phoned as soon as the flights became available and gave her dates we wanted to travel throughout the year and she came back with the Feb dates.

You still have to pay for Taxes, but seats etc are all free so think it cost about 180 for the 5 of us and it should have been closer to 1000.

Tee hee Joe, have you added up how much you have spent over the past in order to rack up the points for your "free flights"?
If you then divide the savings on your current flight by that number, you'll see exactly what "discount" across all flights that you've actually achieved.

Its a frighteningly small number, and, yes, I know, it takes away the fun of getting "free flights" :D

I have the easyjet credit card - so I spend no more than I normally would - and have at least 4 free flights each year - no tax to pay etc - perfect. And 20kgs of hand luggage is more than enough for me to last 2 weeks in the summer.
