Swanage off season you cant move... ask that miserable old pratt HampshireRich he found it intoxicating at the Blues festival. Im quite a happy chappy really

Think I will relax now and listen to Leonard Cohen. Off to Munich next week for work (sort of ) hoping for some snow as it makes the Christmas market that little bit extra special. Then back to Swanage over Christmas if I can squeeze in through the crowds

Gary how many summy days did you have last summer in Swanage ??

Also ONE very big difference between English seas side resorts and those in the ALgarve, UK ones aare full in the winter of DHSS tourists and the above average pensioner population something the Algarve does not have ( thank god ).
Yes I am qualified to comment as we live in a UK seaside resort and cant wait to be back in the Algarve in a couple of weeks,

I really dont know how many summy days there were in the summertime as my little hovel in Swanage only rented out for 37 weeks this year so did not get the chance to stay there. I have said it once before on this forum you are a bloody snob.

Whats that got to do with " winter in Carvoeiro ".
The fact that the crowds are not here is why those of us who are no longer holidaymakers ilike it.
If it was a bit busier and a few more places were open that would be great and we all hope that they will have a better 2010 season.

By the way the world ends in 2012 not 2011.

We have just come back from 3 gloriously sunny weeks in CVO to bitterly cold, rain-sodden England.
Guess where I would rather be. Yes, it did appear empty at times, but we still had to book a table at Happys and share golf time with other players, not that I mind that. Sometimes the town appeared busy, other times completely empty. At least it was possible to park near centre of town. I am sure that will be impossible in high season. Most reataurants reported that they had had a good summer, but admitted that it was quiet now.
Can't wait to get back in January for some more (cheaper) golf and great food.

Cheaper golf in Jan??

You have to be kidding surely? We come in June mainly because it is low price season and they are still charging way too much for the product on offer,only one worth the cash was the new Faldo along the road at 69 euro incl Buggy but that included being looked after like a lord and a course thats condition was utterly superb....the rest charging 45-50 euro are taking the mick for the standard of course I'm afraid.Algarve is in danger of pricing itself out like Costa del Sol did.

We pay in summer around 75 euros for a 2 ball with buggy and twilight golf under 30 euros/round.

We all know that Algarve golf is not the cheapest but in Euro terms and allowing for inflation prices have not increased and in some cases the have come down,
It we unforunate Brits suffering from the Sterling devaluation that have the real problem.

When we were out last month there were just as many Germans and Irish around ( I do wish that the Germans didn,t think that 5 hrs was the normal time to take for 18 holes ).

We will be back in a few weeks and will look for the deals, call the clubs and ask for any specials don,t rely on the booking agencies.

It will be worth it after 3 weeks of grotty UK weather , temp greens and tees .

Well we are out next week so I will report back on how we find it, but as I said I do prefer the quieter times in Cvo and surrounding area, OK so if one restaurant is shut there will always be another open, somewhere, or we eat in at home, for us going out in the quiet months is all about peace and quiet and enjoying the ability to walk and park where we like without the huge crowds of the summer.
Also it gives us a better chance to explore the whole of the Algarve and further inland without all the traffic, it opens up small restaurants we wouldn't have found in the summer as they would be too full.

Bring it on is all I can say especially as we have had nothing but rain and winds for the past three weeks, our fields and grounds are water logged and my horse has now got flippers!!!

Hi,

We've stayed in CVO mid summer previously and for the last 3 years over x-mas and New Year.

My modest opinion is that it's safe to say CVO runs at about a 3rd of its mid summer capacity.

That said we still found it easy to find a restaurant/Bar for a bite to eat for lunch or in the evenings in Dec/Jan.

If it's sunny it's still fairly busy during the day with people around and some on the beach. (Sun bathing behind wind shields)

I'd just like to add there are also several shops, in CVO, open during the day.

So to say, with all due respect, that CVO is "dead" in the winter is ridiculous.

We paid 140 euros for a "special deal" 2 ball with buggy at Morgado, and paid 56 euros each with Rocha Brava discount at Silves. In January we will pay nearer 40 euros each. Still expensive but hopefully not as muddy and cold as it will be at home. Last Monday we played in shorts and short-sleeved shirt, no sweater. On Friday I played at home wearing three layers plus an anorak, and still froze. Roll on January even if I am wishing my life away.

We paid 90 euros at morgado for the same deal. ( over the phone with the course ).
