Dear Guest,
agree with you on the 'strap marks' thing..but to make 'double sure'...after sunbathing topless(and Ive always done this privately)...I will wear a 'gypsy style' top..you can pull the shoulder pieces down over arm tops ..and of course..leave the bra at home.
Ive done a bit of research on this..on men I know...and they tell me they like something left to the imagination
..one/two saying that..a button or two left discreetly/accidently .undone..or glimpse of nice cleavage .is far more seductive/alluring ..than everything on show!
Again..I agree wih Guest about 'Thongs' on men/women..bottoms would look better naked than with those
One of the most 'off putting sights' Ive ever seen..is the picture of Peter Stringfellows backside adorned with a thong....really put me off my breakfast.
Will2 says most look better with clothes on..and I agee to some extent....we all tend to look better when young & firm and I had no qualms about wearing a bikini .
But..I think if you take care of yourself..try to keep bit fit and watch the diet....you can still look pretty good
Like your post Coop....enjoying life and having fun is whats important ...good sense of humour is very sexy

Hi Father Ted, you are quite right and when I typed that post, I actually typed "sorry about the sweeping generalisation", then thought I sounded too stuffy and erased it and put the
instead to show that it was a humourous comment.
There you go you see, destined to fail with whatevever you write on here, sometimes I despair

I was walking on the beach in Estoril yesterday and saw a number of women sunbathing topless, all Portuguese (I guess) and the av. age about 65, proving that “time and gravity does strange things to the human body”. But they don’t care. Will 2 wrote:let's face it folks, most of us look a hell of a lot better to other people with our clothes onTime and gravity does strange things to the human body.
Back to the question: "is it ok to go topless on the beach and round the pools in the Algarve?", I don’t know about pools, depends whose pool it is, I’d say perfectly find on the beach, but, if you then go straight to a café or bar not even men should go topless and women should wear something over their swimwear.
Talking of pools, I’m growing to hate them. I’m hoping to buy a small villa in Algarve and the ones I’ve seen and liked have a pool and therefore cost more. And I may have to resort to buying a pool I don’t want and then face the expense of filling it in to plant some trees to sit under after a swim in the sea.

Totally agree that eating my lunch surrounded by topless men is equally repulsive.
I went to Meryeman in Turkey, a monument to piety and faith, and arguably the Virgin Mary's last home and I was appalled that certain visitors thought it was ok to enter the shrine in bursting bikini tops, tiny shorts and for some men no top on at all. The look on the nuns' faces!!!

Leading on from Maddi and Diggers remarks...I aslo like to see men/women dressed nice when out for evening meal.
Girls in pretty dress ,guys in clean smart shirt and pressed trousers..just making the effort..On last hol..got fed up with being surrounded by people eating in t-shirts and shorts they'd obviously worn all day!
If that sounds snobby
..Im sorry..and maybe Im too fussy!

Ah yes, the gorgeous stench of suncream/sweat potruding from the rings of lard that sorrounded his body from the waist all the way to his quadruple chin. Followed closely by his wife and kids, all in bathing suits, bikinis and still covered in sand.
Fantasy you ask? No, no, no. It is the bitter reality with which shop owners, bank/post office clerks and restaurant waiters are faced with day after day in the Algarve during the summer months.
Do these human beings desreve to be degraded that way?
I think packing a bit of etiquette and a few decent clothes along with the g-strings and sleeveless t-shirts would be good advice for some holidaymakers.

I agree with Ellie, One of the best parts of the day is getting dressed up after a day on the beach, in a nice outfit, looking all tanned and glowing (I wish!). but on another note, all the comments about toplessness and the state of the breast of some women, has made me decide to have
silicone implants - like Jordan, then my boobs will always point upwards
no matter what position I am in, Hey girls are you up for it, perhaps we could get a discount...

I cannot imagine anything worse than having to 'manage' boobs like Jordans on a daily basis and thankfully the men I know think they are gross too - perhaps that is because I don't tend to hang around with Sun or Star readers
Love dressing up to go out at night, really enjoy the ritual of coming back from the beach and getting ready to go out very slowly whilst enjoying a drink or two. (Takes me back to getting ready with my mates in our teens whilst knocking back a bottle of something disgusting - in my day it was Rocamar, sweet spanish wine - UGH).
Would say though that on a couple of occasions, we have headed into the hills on adventures and not returned to civilisation until 10pm or later and then find ourselves having to get a bite to eat in our shorts, although then we tend to avoid anyplace fancy
