Who owns that f***ing dog at the top of restaurant hill

Re: Who owns that f***ing dog at the top of restaurant hill
Always stayed at Monte CVO since we've been visiting all these years and used to have a real prob with early morning dog chorus - doesn't seem so bad last couple of years.
But it is a particular problem with Iberia (used to be same in Spain when we used to visit expats there) - the owners don't really give a flying beep! beep! and normally they're 'the locals' - they just chuck them outside and just let 'em bark- not like in UK where these days you could get council involved for noise issues.
Part of the 'landscape' so to speak, but if i lived in CVO i'd prob end up shooting the dogs!

Maybe the dog was in distress? Did you not think of investigating? If a dog was in distress the lack of sleep would be the last thing on my mind!fmm wrote:THat has been howling, screaming, yipping non stop since 7am this morning. It is bloody unacceptable. Can someone do something about it please?!!! I cannot work out exactly where it is coming from otherwise I would visit the premises and make some suggestions. But I AM seriously pissed off. It sounds like a small dog, it sings in several octaves and then finishes with either a whine or several yips. It is sending me demented!!! It is definitely near the old Primavera site rather than the bigger howling dog which is round the back of the Mirachor area.
Any help with shutting said dog up would be much appreciated.
I thank you.
I would stress extreme caution in confronting somebody else about they they keep their pets especially if they are Portuguese and if you are not! In the case of cruelty by all means investigate but because it was barking and you could only get 39 and not the 40 winks then you are looking for trouble which I am sure you are not!
There are always dogs barking in Carvoeiro; sometimes all night. That is part of the charm living in the country.

No clearly not! Saturday night television on ITV was for the brain-dead! Okay to put on just for noise while doing chores around the house!Michael Crane wrote:Well, you clearly don't remember.James Faro wrote:...

No, I did not consider the dog was distressed and neither did I consider finding it to offer it comfort. A dog with as fine a singing voice as this may have been pissed off, and may even have been distressed, but I strongly suspect was neither hurt nor in danger.
Apart from me, of course

James - first you say that you have never seen a stork in the Algarve and now you think a yapping dog in CVO may be in distress !! - just how many times have you visited the Algarve (not that it is a prerequisite to join this forum ) ?

A constantly barking dog can actually be a sign of distress - not always but quite often. Basically, it keeps barking constantly because it's being neglected - not uncommon on the Iberian peninsula.cereza wrote:James - first you say that you have never seen a stork in the Algarve and now you think a yapping dog in CVO may be in distress !! - just how many times have you visited the Algarve (not that it is a prerequisite to join this forum ) ?
For those that say it's a feature of the Portuguese landscape you're probably right - one member used the word 'charm' as a description - i don't think so. In the UK roaming packs of dogs or constantly barking dogs would be treated as a nuisance and in the case of a constantly barking dog on a person's premises that person would prob be subject to some kind of court order for constant disturbance.
Algarve 'charm' or not it's a real annoyance

Seeing that you claim to be an animal lover, I would have thought you'd be the first to be alerted that a yapping dog would be in distress. no?

I agree, dogs don't bark for the fun of it;they bark for a reason.

It definitely is a feature of Portuguese life and it was me who wrote it has a charm to it. Every time I go to Portugal there are always dogs barking at night. If one starts, then his 'mate' across the yard or in audible distance will start barking too! The only exception to when it was charming was when I first booked a villa near Faro a few years back and it wasn't dogs making a noise! The villa was very nice but the brochure did not mention that it was out in the sticks of Faro and next to a chicken slaughter house. Every few days you could hear the distress of the poor things.
