Common practice throughout Greece. Never had a problem with it. With pipes of about 3 inch diameter,even in buildings that are not that old, it is easy to see why a blockage could occur.

One of the reasons why some establishments say use the bin for paper is because where there are toilets in a basement area the s***e & paper need to be pumped up to the main sewer by the way of a macerator pump, if too much paper or other products (which I will not go into detail) are used, the pump becomes blocked and stops working, hence back up of you know what.

I noticed, when walking into town one afternoon, workmen on a new building site had a manhole cover off the sewer line, being nosey, I had a quick look and what appeared to be the main sewer line was about 6" diameter, considering the number of homes feeding into that, no wonder they struggle (not saying I have a 6" ar**hole) should other items be sent for the long journey !!
The company I work for has a jetting division, must talk to boss and drop some hints about re-location.

besides charging for water to use don't lagoa camera charge for water disposal. have no invoice in front of me as i leave them all out in portugal but from memory there are 3 elements on usage on the invoices
