Scotland might not qualify for many tournaments but the ones we do qualify for are trouble free. Note the U.E.F.A. best fans award. You can never ever say that about the small but sick number of English supporters - trouble is a foregone conclusion. So please don't suck us in to this by saying we have hooligan problems in Scotland. We do - but at this point we are not talking about our hooligans going abroad and shaming us. Someone was simply making the point that it was not British hooligans it was English hooligans. You would I am quite sure ( note Ellies remarks) be quick to jump if it was Scottish hooligans who were tarnishing these Isles.

It's time the Scottish removed that enormous chip from their collective shoulder!

I think you'll be fine in CVO. My guess is that most fans are concentrated around albufeira, Faro, Loule, Vale do Lobo etc. and don't waste their time on a 40 minutes drive to CVO........

Keeping hooligans away from the euro matches is not even hard for british authorities - they just have to confiscate their passports. The problem is that there are always two factors that turns peace loving footie fans into mindless beasts - alcohol and the herd effect. Out of the 800 that stormed Albufeira the other night only about a dozen were actually prepared for real violence. The rest just went along for the fun of it.

After the lost game the camera swung through the crowd showing british reactions and paused on a supporter - team shirt, bald head, keg and....a black eye. This guy had probably already been in fights before the first game kicked off...

Most Brits drink too much beer, period.


Sure, there were german and dutch supporters arrested in Porto yesterday, but compared to the brits they were nowhere near as numerous, nowhere near as violent and nowhere near as pissed.

Alcohol induced football riots are easily solved with the right amount of counter-violence - No matter who is causing the disturbance, I vote to take the leash off the portuguese policia choque and let them crack some skulls.

What astounded me was that news reports stated that "British police were assisting the GNR by identifying troublemakers....KNOWN troublemakers? I believe the checks on fans leaving Britain were extensive....how did these arseholes get through??? Why weren't the British police vetting incomers at the Portuguese airports??? Well, it's all about to 'kick off' so to speak, as there's talk this morning of England being threatened with eviction from the competition because of the supporters behaviour.........

The answer to the question, "What happened in Carvoeiro on Sunday night." ....... There was a lot of noise, but the fans were in a happy mood. My suspicion is that they were French fans, wearing England tops. Last night, it was definately English fans parading up and down Estrada do Farol, as they were singing the one word song, ENG-A-LAND, ENG-A-LAND, ENG-A-LAND. At a guess, I would say that this group would not come into the catagory of "football hooligans." The fact is that they must have known they were annoying ordinary tourists, and locals alike, by doing this at 2.30am. As far as I know, there was no trouble, but it would
only have taken one complaint to start trouble. I know they are having fun, but why not go to a beach and have a party, out of earshot, or is it necessary to have a sleepy audience witness the effects of excessive drinking.

Ellie, football fans aside, I have often witnessed british (scot, eng, welsh) tourists finishing their breakfast with a couple of pints to wash down the beans on toast - later on that day they will go on to drink whilst getting the obligatory lobster tan, go to a restaurant where they will drink even more and then sway into a bar to top it all off with more drinks.
Ask any local gastronomy and they will tell you, that the english drink exponentially more than any other nationality when on holiday.
Even germans, with their beer drinking traditions cannot keep up with them.

I believe 90% of the brawls in summer envolve drunk british youngsters.

Back to the footie, alcohol causes agression and the fans from the british isles are the most agressive troublemakers in european football, they are humans like the rest of us, ergo - they drink too much.

Ive no doubt that all you say & witnesses is true G........and from Uggies post its the women as well not ony the men....On my recent couple of holidays Ive sat close to& witnessed Brit girls sinking Pint after pint..and I have to say "how on earth do they do it?"
We have a bad problem here in UK with alcohol related illness..and d'you know between 7-9 kids (and I mean kids..10-14yr olds) are hospitalised EVERY day here with alcohol illness..........now that IS something to worry us ..deeply
Why do people make abig thing of/and show off with the amount they drink and it isnt only youngsters/teenagers..but older folk too... cant understand it..and gives terrible example to our children.In my opinion its very very juvenile..and as you witness from the above comments and from my statistics its a very bad omen for
todays & future generations
