The House on the Hill.
I have just got back from my after-lunch walk and took the opportunity to look round your dream home.
Basically I would not touch it -- there is evidence of recent slippage apart from the fact that the garden and surrounding wall fell into the sea long ago on the South (sea) facing wall. The roof has virtually gone and there are holes in the other three crumbling walls which some-one in the past has tried to reinforce with iron strengtheners.
The only option in my opinion would be to demolish the existing building whereby the site would probably allow for a small cafe/kiosk type of building - and try getting that past the camara !!
Otherwise your house of dreams could turn into a house of nightmares - or, even worse, wet dreams !!

Hello Ellie and Roy4eyes,
Well, my house of dreams has come crashing down. (Into the sea!)
Ah well, it was nice to think about buying and restoring it to its former glory. It must have been a wonderful place to live. With modern electricity, plumbing and double glazing, a great place to spend the rest of our retirement.
I have some photos taken the last time we were there and will put them up on a page on my web site.
Roy, you said the wall around the garden had fallen. Was that the low white wall with the seating along it? My wife and I both sat there last time we were in CVO.
I am also interested in the history of the house. Prehaps you can find out the address of the Land Registry office in Lisbon and if there is a local historian I could contact. Are you retired or in business in CVO?

I've been looking at CVO.COM to see if I could see anything about the history on Carvoeiro and what did I find? You are the 'Ellie' who writes those lovely stories. I think you should see about putting them all together as a book and try to get them published. They are all charming stories. Much better than any of the 'dry' travel books you see in the shops now.
You have a great story telling gift.

I think that the white wall with seating is a public viewing point and is still there.
The garden of the house to which I was referring is at a higher level.
I cannot find any details of a land registry and indeed doubt if it would be applicable for a property of this age -- the best I can do is give you the telephone numbers for Lagoa Camara 282 340 120 or Carvoeiro tourism
282 357 728, who may be able to assist.
The answer to your other question is semi-retired, working approx. 2 days a week -- I got bored with retirement after the first 6 months !!!!!

Great photos.
I can see how your imagination produced your dream house and feel even worse now about spoiling your ideas. Bear in mind that I am neither an architect nor a civil engineer, just an observer on your behalf - with your determination and a very large investment anything may be possible.
I hope you will keep us in touch with any progress.

Ok, let me start by saying I have come to the conclusion that just to buy the property would present difficulties. Then the amount of money needed to restore it, outside and inside and install double glazing, electricity and heating would be enormous. As I do not have a bottomless pit of money I think that it was all a pipe dream. It was a nice pipe dream while it lasted. It provided me with endless hours of speculation and I often went to sleep at night working on it. (In my head!)
I have been inside the house and have to say that it was one actually house, not three fisherman's cottages. The left and right openings in the front were windows and the center one was a door. There were internal doors connecting the rooms.
Anyway, if anyone of you is a Millionaire and want to finance the project, we can go down to CVO in the New Year!!! ("Only joking" he said, half in joke and whole in earnest.)
