When he reached the final A2 toll booth just before the A22 junction he was presented with a 58euro charge, an expensive mistake.
This could only be paid at a multi banco .
Tricky could tell you a story a bit like that one!! I, as her friend couldn't possibly say anything :D

oh I could, we were coming back from the Alentajo and took the wrong turning, we paid even more than 58 euro's if I remember.

Regarding the current situation with tolls, we have just come back from Carvoeiro (last night to the rain) and having had to make several trips to and from the airport
I used the A22, for the first couple of trips in early July I paid at the post offfice, on the lst of August I went to pay again, but as the post office was full and there was only one person working, and I was 17th in the line, I gave up. The chaos this will cause in August will be unbelievable, especially as many people at the post office had never been to portugal before and were querying the tolls and the amounts!!

Tricky, you can always pay at the paper shop in the intermarche super market, far easier and less of a queue.

That only works if you pay the full total on that cars account. If there are outstanding toll fees against your car, they cant be dis-aggregated at the Intermarche' kiosk.

Bruce is right you can't pay just your tolls at intermarche if people before havn't paid theirs, our friends went
to pay for their trip from the airport and were told there was 56 euros to pay, that is a lot of people who have
hired that car and not paid the tolls, they obviously refused to pay and as the Post Office was so busy they didn't
pay at all!!!

I wouldn't but my husband probably would
We had no problem paying at Intermarche and they gave us a detailed receipt.

I have paid there twice without any problem, and only paid for what I used.

You cannot pay at Intermarche if the car is not a Portuguese registered vehicle. My wife went to pay at the CVO Post Office, and had great difficulty in doing so, because the camera's apparently cannot track foreign registration plates, so the answer was......why pay! Anyway, we did pay and have all the receipts, but it didn't register through our cell phone, so who knows!

Not sure about that but I did receive an email from YOR this morning offering " lower " prices for August September.

The driver is responsible for toll payments unless the cars are already fitted with a transponder , do the companies that Algarve Driver use
offer this ??

Just back :( We used Algarve Driver, (YOR), used the A22 a few times, paid up at the post office after 10 days, will await notification for our return trip to the airport, as advised by our YOR rep in Car Park 4. Yes, post office was busy, but it was fine. Just need to be aware of the 'deli style' ticket system.,.... I'd been in a queue for about 15 mins before I'd sussed that out!! Very easy to do, but to be honest, nothing seems to be a hassle when the sun's shining and you're in Carvoeiro!

Used Interrent this year for the first time. Great car but kept me waiting ages to pick up. Anyway - was almost threatened into having the transponder thingy - they wanted 20 euros but when I asked if this included any tolls, they said that was extra. But the 20 euros was worth paying to stop me having to queue at the post office. I declined as 20 euros is a bit too much money for the minor inconvenince of walking into town.

Well. I have now tried 4 times to pay tolls (been to airport twice, Tavira etc) - each time post office insists there is nothing to pay. Finally, we believe that the transponder thingy which beeps every time I go past the tolls is registering the amount somewhere else other than on the central system

So I don't know whether to pay the tolls tomorrow when I take the car back, or not

In addition, I don't appear to have been charged any car hire from the credit card. The whole things seems majorly hokey to me and I am feeling extremely uncomfortable about it.

So - car not paid for and tolls not paid (despite trying).
