I guess it all begins and ends with the existence of a Jewish State in the Arab World.

Isrial, is the direct result of w.w.2, and the "Final Solution To Jewish Problem"....

Only problem is some Jews surived and gravited toward their Biblical Homeland, kicked out the Brittish, the local population, and took over their land to find a new home for themselves .....because, obviously, no one else wanted them (big time).

What is Isrial?
An expression of Western Guilt?
A homeland for the Jews?
An outpost of Western Values?
The root cause of terrorism?

How on Earth can Tony Blair be in Madrid one day and then go on to embrace Col. Gaddafi. I wish the brain surgeon who was suspended for having an extra helping of croutons this week

could get hold of this pair (would he find anything?) and do us all a favour!

Thats ok -youre very welcome

Son says you don't need the language of most countries..except in Germany.
He didnt have any 'Arabic' for Egypt (but most spoke English there --especially the young)
Forgot to say..he also taught in Holland for some time a year or so ago.
Althought you don't need a degree..he says it does help tremendously. But a few places you have to-like Japan-China. and if you work for the British Council(as J did for Holland)-you need degree.
Did you know Matt..you can get Tefl cert. online? Js going to dig out info for you(can send it by PM to you).
Hey? How about going to Algarve/Portugal to teach?My friend out there(whos daughters go to Inter. school at Porches) say they need them!

Did you see the news last night?
The young Arab boy 14,with dynamite strapped to his chest..walking up to the armed Israeli checkpoint--the Jewish soldiers had to send robot towards him with scissors so he could cut off the vest. Then they arrested him..only to find out he was mentally retarded and been used by his elders as a suicide bomber?

and so it goes on....
My late cousin was a young soldier in the Palestine police force after WW2.and was witness to those early days.
Can you imagine what it was like..to have been incarcerated in nazi Germany and seen all the attrocities..even though you survived..losing 'all ' your family..and having nowhere to go?

My cousin had feelings for both sides in that time.... he was stabbed by an Arab.
and so it goes on today...man's inhumanity to man.
If both sides thought of each other's children..there would be peace..wouldn't there?

I did a TEFL course about 8 or 10 years ago and taught a lot in the UK. I haven't done any teaching out here as I am doing something different at the moment, but may go back to it as I really enjoyed it.

It is better that you don't speak your students' native language - I have taught Russian, Japanese, German, Spanish, Portuguese, Slovakian students and only speak French myself - and learning Portuguese now.

There do not seem to be many TEFL jobs in the Algarve just now - maybe more opportunities in Lisbon.

Thats very interesting about yourself Kteee...actually I started an online Tefl well over a year ago..but didn't keep it up..as I went seriously into the writing game.
You mentioned teaching Russian students..Jamie had a choice of going there or Egypt....and afterwards..wished he had gone to Moscow!
Quite few of Jamie's Tefl colleagues were well into their 60s..what a great opportunity for older folk to have a further & very interesting career..good stuff!

Michael..we got onto this after I related sons experience in Egypt living with Arabs.
I do hope MattK reads all the above of Ktees & ours and gets encouragement and help from it

I sure do Ellie! I had heard about the online course, but havent found too much on it. I was looking into doing that 20 hour weekend course, followed up by the 60 hour home course. I will be visiting Morocco and Tunisia in the summer, so will be able to check whether or not I would like to teach there. I definatly would like to get to south america, Im also hoping to travel across Russia on the trans-manchurian railway, right through siberia. So many plans, so little cash!

In relation to the original topic, i did see that 14 yr old, though the israelis are saying he knew what he was doing- but the understandable fear got to him. I saw the other week a young boy try and cross with a bomb, he had been told there was car parts in his bag with a phone, he didnt no there was a bomb-just shows you-do each side care about children, or is all they care about winning their struggle? Also I think Blairs trip to Libya is an attempt to find friends in the muslim countries,

J says you can get voluntary work info on this website and also says theres such work in South America...food & board he thinks..not surebut thinks you may have to pay a little something towards it.
We admire your spirit of adventure..its a courageous thing to do.
J just said ..paraguay and Bolivia come to mind (fromwhat he remembers)..he says you will get a dvd which shows you a teacher at his work..give you some idea.
Id love to see Russia too Matt..still hoping I will some day!
getting back to the topic......my niece is at UNI..and her flatmate is off to Jerusalem soon for some studies towards her degree....my niece is quite worried about her going there .the way things are...she asked my niece to go with her but she declined....we re all glad about that!
Shame isnt it? Another place Id like to see..wish you lots luck

I am registered, but i think there is a gap between the "t" and the "k", anyway, can never be bothered logging in! thanks again for that info, thank your son again for me, you have been a great help! I had looked into voluntery work with i to i, but was put off by the prices they charged, in some cases thousands-which is no good for a poverty stricken student like me. I will look at the teaching thing this time to see how much it is, and the course prices, thanks for the tip.

Cowboy, given the choices I'll go for the last one.

Who, in their right mind decides to make a home for themselves in the middle of their enemies? Would I want to live in a tiger's cage? No, I wouldn't.

When WW3 starts (and inevitably it shall - if it hasn't already) it won't be in the Balkans (its traditional home!) but in the middle east; Israel.

In my opinion Israel is by far the most 'scariest' country on earth. They just don't seem to want a real or lasting peace, nor do they show any genuine desire to live peacefully with their neighbours.

America funds Israeli 'terrorism' and until they stop (and it'll take a stronger President than Bush) it will continue.

Israel has flourished, if that is the appropriate word, because of the conscience of the world after the holocaust. It has played upon this most successfully, going back as far as its formation in 1947 when even then it took more land than it was entitled to, and suffered no retribution. Since then it has been the recipient of huge ongoing financial subsidisation from countries that should know better to build up a state that was pro West in an area which at best was west neutral

There is no doubt in my mind that they currently have no intention of giving up this and the further lands they have since occupied. They dont want to see a Palestine state formed. Three years ago it seemed there was an opportunity with the land for peace scheme, but this was scuppered by Hammas, who are at least as inhumane as certain elements within Israel in that they simply don't want the state of Israel to exist and are working towards its destabilisation.

There is no hope for peace in this unfortunate area of the world until financial and military support is curtailed, or even withdrawn from Israel, unless lands are returned, and the state of Palestine established. Investment must be poured into Palestine, for Hammas, like most other terrorist organisations, draws its support from those who have nothing, and no prospects. Give the people a state, respect, dignity and opoortunity and there is then little reason to continue a terrorist campaign.

The only down side to this of course is that it could then be perceived that terrorism gets results, and sends a message round the rest of the world
