Since the Mexico world cup , some time ago, the scots have got themselves sorted out you cannot say that about England.
Err, should that not be a corner of a field in Portugal that is forever England!

Ashamed to be British

You all just have a look at the trash that has been written with regards to football and supporters´s behaviour.

Looking at the the trash the answer is: yes, you definitely ought to be ashamed to be British - big time !

Just as a point of info to St george et el ..football as you know it is not our national game..gaa and hurling have that distiinction and this is where the money and resorces tend to go.By the way since we were not involved a national radio station over here asked us to vote for a team to support...guess who we picked ..yep england ..thugs and all ..so much as this goes against the grain....the best o...the best of....thebestoflucktoyis

Out of the thousands of English fans that have gone to Portugal for the football the only ones that make the headlines are the few mindless thugs that are intent on causing trouble. I dont see headlines or photos here in the Uk showing the majority of the fans enjoying the tournament and having a good time, but then again that wont sell newspapers will it! All i can say is please dont think that all English football supporters are hooligans because they are not, some of us are quite nice really. I also think that this topic seems to have gone from talking about the English hooligans and more towards slagging of the English race as a whole

Luis?
I don't quite get your point dear( or should I say 'Querido'?)
When you say "look at all the trash thats being written"
put that way..it translates as What is being WRITTEN is trash!
In other words its rubbish..over the top journalism maybe? :?
Then you go on to say..we ought to be ashamed of being British..Big Time....for what?
The drunken louts or bad reporting, both..or what?
Or you simply having a go at our nation as a whole? I think thats how Loretta reads it and I understand her getting upset..cos thats how I read it too.......
Explain yourself more fully.... I dare you
Gerry..youre a brave man sunshine..good on ya..like Croeso you're a good sport :)
and I know.if Ireland/N.Ireland/Wales/Scotland were in the tournament....Loretta and me & other English folk would be cheering for them....except if they were playing.....England of course :)

…..on the sunny Sunday afternoon of that evening when Eng v France at Benfica…..the boss and I were downtown Lisboa and we wandered around for a couple of hours, had a couple of beers and a great laugh…..we were mingling with about 10,000 (maybe slight exaggeration) English fans (plus a few French)……and the atmosphere was fantastic…..Of course some were more noisy than others, some were legless, some were persuading the facepainters to paint that flag in unusual parts………… ………. ………..….I don’t know what I’m trying to say here, cept that I’ve never been to a proper football match and all my life in England always avoided the lagerlouts like the plague, but to see all these guys with their flags from every corner of England (names like Macclesfield, Hastings and I cant remember all sorts of foreign but somehow familiar names) and attaching them to buildings, statues, national monuments……who are all obviously sincere supporters of their country (“Rule Britannia” tattoos) and therefore it’s footy team, was an education and quite endearing……….(even if I cant understand what its all about)………….they’re good lads……...but……….
